CNN now: Will Obama run or not? I'm already coming to the point
where I don't give a fuck if he runs or not. Sick of hearing about it already.

1. Add me to that list, T E. Too early, much ado about nothing. We
have bigger fish to fry in 07.

4. One more election after '08 is all it will take for
Edited on Sun Dec-10-06 07:26 PM by Texas Explorer
elections to overlap. After '08, the election seasons for both '12 and '16 will run concurrently. We'll begin to become confused as to which candidate is running for which year's election. We'll have twice the candidates, some running for 2012 and some for 2016. 2020's election season will begin that day after the 2012 elections are decided.

And Christmas? Don't even get me started. Soon, WalMart will be starting the Christmas season right after Independence Day.

2. That is the media strategy.
Make people sick of the candidates.

25. I like Obama. I am holding out for Gore, though. The corporate media
can trash any potential Dem candidate for Pres and it won't influence my choice in the least.

27. Has the media been trashing Gore lately? I haven't seen that.
I think he's been getting favorable publicity, actually. A lot better than in the past.

30. Well I don't watch the corporate media, so I can't actually say if they have been
trashing Gore. But let him announce that he might be thinking of running in '08 and watch what happens then. They will pounce on him in a New York minute!

5. It's too early for anything but buzz
I say, if you want to make a commitment now to work for a candidate, that is really cool, if you don't that's fine too. And sometimes its great to just become interested when its Democrat vs. Republican. If somebody wants to work for Obama or Clinton or Edwards or whomever, this is the time for them to focus their energy on their decision. If you aren't going to be part of the campaign, don't worry about it. And frankly the pundants are all full of shit anyway, as we all know.

6. I do intend to take part in the campaign but I sure as hell want
a little time off from the last one first. My God! I'm a sheet metal worker. I'm a dad. I'm a golfer. I have to have time for other things. I can't be campaigning full time every day of my life as a volunteer. Give us a fucking break for God's sake!

8. Of course
I just think that people on DU get far too excited about things really early. I, who don't have your strenous job or family responsibilities am really considering jumping in and working on a campaign. I'm not going to shout from the rooftops of DU now however.

7. Why are they covering the 2008 election so early?
Don't tell me this wall-to-wall coverage is going to go on for two years! Still, if they must obsess on something, this is better than Natalee.

It's as if they couldn't stop the election coverage when the actual election happened, so they just switched to 2008 and kept going. It's like a runner finishing a race who keeps running past the finish line to "wind down".

they would have to show the genocide in Iraq and the genocide in Darfur. That wouldn't be good now for holiday shopping now, would it? :sarcasm:

stacked in the beginning of the cycle. The heavy campaigning must therefore start earlier, and the winner will probably be determined much earlier than in years past.

There is also something very...cult-like or childish about this Obama worship. I have nothing against the man himself, but this media frenzy is bordering on repulsive.

I was listening to NPR at work Friday and they had this bit on Obama that was ridiculous. Some woman wrote a song about him being a "saviour" and there was something about what a swell guy he is and how he "mesmerizes" anyone he meets. Again, I realize it may not be his fault, but this is the kind of stuff that appeals to Bush supporters I thought.

I realize that my disgusted response is also illogical but I can't help it.

32. I suspect women like him more than men do.
Women are also more likely to vote Democratic. Bush, unfortunately, got more of the female votes than Repubs usually get -- which helped put him into office.

The Democrats and We the People have so much important work to do before even thinking about 2008 Elections. It's a distraction IMHO.

16. This is exactly what the media did with GW back in '98. They started
in promoting him very early, and I knew that would end up being the Repukes candidate. Now they're trying to do it with Obama. I don't know if they don't like the possibility of Hillary or what, but the media is trying to anoint Obama as the Dem candidate for '08.

he was met with huge crowds. It's not just the media that's excited about him.

The REAL alternative, the one who would be a fucking shoo-in, is too terrifying for the powers that be to contemplate.

21. Where does he stand on Universal Health Care?
Will he abolish the patriot act?
What about the Military Commissions Act?

I have read very little about him other than he is running and has charisma. Shouldn't we ask more of our candidates?

23. Dear Senator Obama:
Please, for the love of all that's good and right, PLEASE don't run for president.

Stay in the senate. You are needed there. Next to Senator Clinton. She's needed there, too.

Sincerely,
DR in NM

cc: Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
Governor Bill Richardson (please don't run, either)

He can appoint another good Democrat to finish out the term.

29. I see far more discussion of it here
on DU than I do in the media.

A 2-second mention on CNN gets a thread that stays on the front page for hours here.

But start a thread on it - that might help.

34. There are plenty of other things to do...
than to watch CNN. I'm sure your television is equipped with an off switch, or - at the very least - the ability to change to a different channel.

Besides, there's more talk on DU about potential '08 candidates than in any media outlet I've seen, including CNN.
