Pinochet death 'saddens' Thatcher
Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher is "greatly saddened" by the death of Augusto Pinochet, said a spokesman.

Chile's former military leader, who has died aged 91 in hospital, backed the UK during the Falklands conflict.

Baroness Thatcher also pressed for his release after his arrest in London in 1998 over alleged human rights abuses.

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett used the death to pay tribute to Chile's "remarkable progress" since Gen Pinochet left office.

1. Why should she be sad?
After all, in her own words, "There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families."

Is Pinochet part of her family, which means he married a woman within Thatcher's lineage?

4. That's about all anyone really needs to know about Thatcher.
I met her once outside 10 Downing after she and Dennis had a photo-op. Impressive. But she's about as far right as they get.

7. I know this will sound frivolous (and it is).........
but Mrs. Thatcher (or her handlers)had awesome fashion sense.

She was always spectacularly well-dressed in age-appropriate but not matronly outfits.

5. The Iron Lady has lost one of her favorite dictators....
She longs for an era past, long before all this democracy stuff started sweeping South America.

Pinochet was disgusting! There are no words to describe the extent of his atrocities.

She is sickening.
