Gosh! I sure wish DU could get a bit more melodramatic!!!!
That speech was shit. There wasn't a memorable moment in it.

The clown managed to look somewhat sober.

AND furthermore, people shouldn't wear t-shirts to a SOTU speech, I don't care if Satan is speaking. No, she shouldn't have been "Detained" but she should have a fashion consultant if she doesn't know better.

Jesus Christ.

Smiling like a used car salesman talking about New Orleans was bad.

21. Exactly
For the last four months, every move she makes plays right into the hands of people who've had great success casting her as some sort of nut job.
She did a lot for the peace movement.
But there are other people who can step in and become the face for the movement.

It's insane, in this giant PR game, to attach so much of the movement to an everyday woman who doesn't have PR skills and isn't being managed by anyone with PR skills.

On the radio the other night, someone called into Drudge and said she hopes Sheehan runs against Feinstein for the Senate, and he suggested that the right pour a ton of money into it because a Sen. Sheehan in DC would kill the Democratic Party.

On the one hand, who cares? The Democratic Party NEEDS a huge shake up.

On the other hand, as much as the Dems need to wake up, we simply can't afford more crap from Bush and his followers. And Sheehan would do great harm to the Dem's chance to win back the Senate/House and eventually, the presidency.

Let the Sheehan story pass. But not the message and not the fight.

Stop using this woman a symbol.

8. Seeing as bush has pissed all over your Constitution, the Congress
and the American people, why would one care about a 'dress code'? I continually amazes me how, on the one hand, there is recognition of what this man is doing to your country but yet one should adhere to a DRESS CODE for a speech of his. WOW.

22. Ahhh, so the Vice President telling a Senator to
"FUCK YOURSELF" in the House of Congress is okay but not a t-shirt. I understand. The Senators, Members of the House have to be there, looking their best in hopes of pleasing their voters. Again, imo, after watching the disgusting behavior that has taken place in the 'hallowed' halls of Congress in the last 5 years, a DRESS CODE 'breach' would seem to me to be the least of anyone's problems.

No, play one step ahead. Her impact could have been great. Instead, the mainstream is saying, "That Sheehan woman got arrested again tonight."

Strategy would have benefited her--and the many of us who agree with her--tonight.

But she's her own person, so she does what she wants.

if it weren't talking about Cindy....oh, wait...it seems they are talking about both but they are NOT talking about the disaster in Iraq, the disaster of health care, prescription drugs, etc. The US media has not reported actual news for a very long time and thinks the fact that an author who lied in his book is a major crime but a President that lied the country into an illegal invasion and occupation is just hunky-dory, give me a break.

Cindy spent her day working for something important to her, she is on the road and probably didn't bring along proper SOTU attire. 9. I think she is insulated by the groups with which she spends all her time.
Unfortunately, she takes advice from them, and doesn't think about alternative ways to get her message across.

C'mon. A t-shirt in the upper balcony of the chamber might have been seen by 10 people. Had she stayed through the speech, though, she would have been interviewed by various media reps, and millions of people would have heard her message.

creak on capitol hill. John Q Public isn't, though. And those who do hear that she was arrested won't know why.

If I were her, I would have given "them" absolutely NO reason to remove me. Then, after the speech, I would have welcomed interviews, which would have been televised to MILLIONS of people.

Like I said before, strategy is everything.

11. Cindy had a jacket over the t-shirt.
This is what she had been wearing all day. She only received the invitation to the gallery this afternoon and wore what she had on. She had the jacket closed when she walked in. It was open after she sat down and probably no one would have seen it if she hadn't been arrested. From what I understand, she didn't take her black jacket off -- it was just "open".

Isn't this just way over the top in America? Obviously she was being watched and I have no doubt that Karl Rove gave the order to find some reason to get her out of there.

93. No.... I am the one who called someone asshole, not Jesus. :)
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 01:39 AM by doublethink
What you got a problem with it? Don't put words in Jesus mouth ..... And I said Cup not Sepulchres, where men are allready dead. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess." Mathew Ch 23 Verse 25 .... And yes go on in the chapter to find the part your refering too..... Also look up this part .. "Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day." ...... find that and get back to me and we can discus it too if you'd like. Signed the Cussing Christian. :) .... okay I know "bad communications corrupt good manners" .... I'm working on it. But I know I am a sinner, and I don't judge, how bout you? Peace. :)

97. PS:
Next time don't try and impress someone by your 'Bible knowledge' or the lack there of, for the hell of it. Or by 'their rules' because you obviously don't really know what's in that book kinda like a lot of professed Christian's, but of course your not one either .. again whatever .... Peace. And God Bless. :)

a dark suit with jewelry. I didn't see a T-Shirt, nor do I have X-ray vision to look under her jacket and I wonder who did.

I agree his sentences seemed more together, so he was probably a little more sober, but he's had five years to memorize those few words and sentences so..

67. In all actuality
it is a big deal when in America an American is detained for a t-shirt with numbers of war dead on it. This was the number of mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, etc. who died in a war we were lied into fighting, this was the number of soldiers we lost. IMHO it is a big deal.

45. Ooooh a T-Shirt... How awful... Let's Arrest everybody
who breaks an expected "dress code". That's what's really important. Not what you do, but what you say or how you dress. In face, just like the new Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, I think we should deploy the new Conservative Fashion Police; fully armed and with powers granted under the Patriot Act to "disappear" anyone suspected of offending. They should also be able to search people's homes without a search warrant on the mere whiff of a suspicion that they might be harboring an offending t-shirt. They should work in concert with the NSA to tap all American's phones--especially those suspected of supporting anti-Republican clothing. It's for our own good! Tonight's Sheehan Disruption could have been avoided if we'd only been listening in ahead of time! We MUST protect our children's fragile minds from such subversive influences!

Get a life.

81. Do you not realize Cindy could be jailed for a year for wearing a
t-shirt??? That's what CNN is reporting. Why are you not POed about that? That's the real outrage in this whole miserable thing....maybe a freaking year in jail for this.

I don't agree with everything she says or does but I sure as hell support her right to express her opinion. That's what we are supposed to all about...you know, freedom of expression.

How dare she wear something so unfashionable to a meeting of crooks and politicians, the very cream of society.

98. Cindy's clothes are perfect for me
This criticism of her wearing a t-shirt and hoodie to the SOTU brings to mind what Winston Churchill once said about another hero of mine:

"It is ... alarming and also nauseating to see Mr. Gandhi, a seditious Middle Temple lawyer, now posing as a fakir of a type well-known in the East, striding half-naked up the steps of the Viceregal Palace"
