Bill Jefferson has won reelection in Louisiana.
The New Orleans area embarrasses itself at a critical point in its history... and I say that as a New Orleans native.

2. I hope he doesn't have to resign!
I'm glad the Dem won, but I will hate it MORE if he has to resign in disgrace after the FBI is done with their investigation. I think I'm a very rational person, and I can'timagine why anyone would have a legitimate reason for having $90,000 in their freezer, especially after an FBI sting when he was given $100,000! Gee Jefferson, surprise me! Tell me a believable story!

3. well he is very well liked person locally
the presumption here is that all politicians steal -- dubya too -- but the effa-bee-eye picks and chooses who to investigate and to prosecute

4. We don't need Democrats like Bill Jefferson...
I'd rather not elect a crook from either party.

my impression is that a lot of people in district 2 feel that he was a good listener and would try to help them

i have the misfortune to be in district 1 for decades so i have never had a congresscritter that i felt was on my side

if i had such a person i can understand why i'd want to hold onto him

8. Right. It was a Dem v. Dem run-off, like the Mayor's race was also.
I learned a lot in the aftermath of the Mayors race. I'm not surprised by the outcome of this election at all.

9. i'm a little surprised
my husband is cursing "that southern attitude" of how "nobody can tell us nothin"

i do think there's some of that, people feel that jefferson was picked out and picked on, hell, i still feel that way about edwards so i know exactly how they think

<channeling the thought involved> with cheney out there making millions off war why are they bothering some dude who thought he was reversing the nigerian scam back on some nigerians?

10. It was the OJ defense...
The "man" was picking on poor William Jefferson.

His opponent, Karen Carter, ran a stupid campaign. She should have made marked bills in Jefferson's freezer a part of her ads, but did not.

Jefferson might be in jail soon. Nagin endorsed him because Nagin wants his seat.

12. His opponent was another Democrat
There's nothing to be happy about here. It was a choice between a corrupt POS Democrat and a far more liberal clean Democrat.
