WSAI drops liberal talk
BY JOHN KIESEWETTER | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER
The liberal “revolution of talk radio” here is over.

Clear Channel has canceled progressive talk on WSAI-AM (1360) – a tough sell in a red state – after two years of low ratings.

“It wasn’t working. We thought it best to do something else,” says Tony Bender, program director.

The change also was prompted by Jerry Springer’s decision to quit his 9 a.m.-noon liberal talk show after today’s Friday rerun, and the uncertainty of the liberal Air America network, which declared bankruptcy in October.

The “revolution of talk radio” format was launched in January 2005 with Springer and Al Franken’s Air America show on 50,000-watt WCKY-AM (1530). It moved to weaker WSAI-AM in July.

On Monday, the station will unveil a lineup of consumer, relationship, home, car, garden and financial advice shows. Most will be tape-delayed or reruns, including old WKRC-AM broadcasts by fix-in expert Gary Sullivan, gardener Ron Wilson and auto mechanic Steve Overbeck.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger and Dr. Joy Browne also return on tape-delay after several years off local airwaves.

The station will be marketed as “1360thesource.com.”

1. fix-in expert Gary Sullivan, gardener Ron Wilson and auto mechanic Steve Overbeck.
Sounds like quite a lineup to me.

12. Last July Clear Channel moved AAR from 50,000 watt WCKY to 5000 watts WSAI

I do not believe Clear Channel is into having a progressive voice on the radio in Greater Cincinnati.

Then again 5000 watt stations are selling for $200,000 or less in many places - not sure this is a big loss to progressive radio. Seems much like the 1200/1430 in Boston drop of AAR - a weak signal that could not have afford to pay AAR and the Jones folks much money.

What we need are 3 or 4 50,000 watt stations.

2. And once again, it's right after an FM talker signs on
just like in New Orleans, discussed here:

"A tough sell in a red state"? That would be the "red" state that just elected Dem Sherrod Brown to the Senate and Dem Ted Strickland as governor in landslides? :eyes:

not hard to make.. note that the animated antenna diagram is different than the diagram in the article.. the animated plan is probably better.. i think you can use TV cable wire too.. it is easier to come by.. probably lots of old stuff still hanging next to the digital replacemet in you basement..

Is it the j-pole antenna made from 300-ohm (flat)TV wire?

9. no it is a single wire.. i use the door bell wire from Lowes or home depot
actually single solid phone wire will work.. the best is 14 gauge.. this antenna doesnt take a lot of wire, about 20 feet.

looks like a good antenna, the traditional T antenas out of the 300 ohm pink ribbon wire work pretty good..

13. Here's a better idea, if you have the time
It's formal name is "a modified cubical quad". Just a few minutes measuring and soldering and you've got a dynamite antenna that can pull in those weak stations. Look at the animated 3d picture to get an idea.

14. that is the site i linked to.. notice the drawing in the article is different than the animated one.
i made a model and posted it on the yahoo groups loop antenna group under Pass_thru2 picture folder with some of the loops i have made.

it is better to crimp with metal electrical crimp ferrules, soldering only passes about 20% of te signal i am told

5. Nova M is about to kick in
with some new satellite capability, or something else I don't understand.

I think they should talk to Sam and Randi.

6. You're referring to a satellte uplink
Meaning that local AM radio stations will be able to carry Mike Malloy on their lineup once it's ready.

Right now, Nova M is only on the Internet, and KPHX in Phoenix. KQKE AM 960 in San Francisco is apparently using a less reliable ISDN connection to pick up Mike temporarily until the satellite uplink is ready.

8. Sam Seder was a TV actor...
...and movie director before AAR.

My prediction is that he returns to TV (or directs movies) if AAR folds.

11.  Liberal talk radio IS working. That's why the right wingers are buying
the stations ! Remember Phoenix, where the Christian Not So Right bought the station that broadcast AAR then dumped them for several religious programs, even tho Phoenex had enough religious stations already ?? But we all prevailed, bought pixels, and got them back on the air!

The liberal talk radio hosts made a dramatic contribution to the country as their ratings soared. Don't be fooled. These goons will continue to buy the stations. We can't let that happen!

They tried to silence Mike Malloy. That didn't work. We need heroes like NOVA M Radio.
