10. I think it is
an important measure of how unwilling the cowardly dogs in this administration are, when it comes to engaging in a confrontation that they know would be tough. DUers should keep this in mind when the progressive members of this community say, "Impeach!"

Chairman is Biden now, and there are Dodd, Kerry, Feingold, Boxer, Obama and some others I forgot on this committee. Oh, and Webb now too! That will be interesting hearings whoever Bush nominates.

18. If I remember correctly,
Biden has said that Bush should drop Bolton, because he wouldn't make it through. I think Biden may be surprisingly progressive on a number of issues important to DUers.

26. I remember Biden's rant during the last Bolton hearing
He was great and so angry that Lugar couldn't stop him. Biden wouldn't be my pick for presidential nominee but he will certainly do good work in the SFRC. There are a lot of very interesting people in this committee.

32. In Isikoff & Corn's book
"Hubris," Biden is shown to be one of the democrats who had worked to keep the administration from having total control on the issues involving the invasion of Iraq. Some others, particularly Dick Gephardt, were looking to position themselves for the 2004 presidential election, and betrayed the party and the American people. (page 127)

I have a lot of respect for Biden, and think that he has taken a far more progressive position on Iraq than some others who are gearing up to run in '08.

and they read the writing on the wall clearly this time.

If this is Poppy and Baker that is doing this, perhaps they think that they are keeping the boy safely in office with these types of turn arounds? What ever the reason, I am grateful.

28. Not so Fast....

Here is how Bush can do an end-run around the rules of recess appointments:

Bolton can not be re-appointed during congressional recess to the same job, but he can be recess appointed as the deputy or assistant to the Ambassador, and leave the Ambassador position vacant.

30. Snarf! It is not like he had any choice
and trying to gloss it as a resignation, just like Rummy's, is bush spin gone awry again. Cambone gone, Rummy gone, Libby gone, Bolton gone, the neocons are taking heavy casualties - maybe they didn't send in enough troops, or plan for the purple fingered Democrats to fight back, they only had a few hours to read their PC's everyday and polls don't matter and well, I am just glad another disaster has ended.
