Roll Call.....Peace Activists from DU
OK, so I signed up for this site last year +/- some......maybe '04 (didn't really check)

I've read many times how US folks say that RW'ers that support the "war"
should just enlist, and show some support.

Well, in August '05, I jumped on my Harley (from CO) and drove down to Crawford.....sure I had a GF in Ft. Worth, but she wasn't into "peace rallys" per se.....

I didn't get to see Cindy, as she was home, tending to some family matters at that time. However I did get to visit the "Crawford Peace House", and spend two days under tent with Joan Baez......(which by the way, was well worth the trip)

I'm just wondering, why there wasn't thousand of DU'ers down in Crawford, at Camp Casey.....

Don't take this post wrong......I just really "expected" a large turnout of people from the DU and DailyKos sites.......as that "is" how I heard of it. (no CNN didn't give me directions)

Will there ever be an "anti-war" protest? besides the web? (ala 60's)

Discussion....

5. I watched
the protests prior to the war.......

the MSM did show the NYC protests, and some from around the world.

But when Cindy made her efforts show ......and the MSM "WAS" there....

there were few, if any people to be seen. Sure, we had a great time in the hotel pool drinkin' beers.......and the MSM was there to imbibe as well, but the "turnout" was less than I, or the "MSM" expected.

I really was hoping that Crawford "was" the turning point......last year

peace

3. A lot of us went
some more than once or twice. I would imagine there was someone there from DU most of the time but we did not always hook up. Some of us planned to meet there and some of us just got lucky and stumbled into each other, :hi: Uppityperson!!

14. Uppityperson?

No....I wasn't braggin'

Just sayin' that we as an anti-war group need to get up, away from the MicroSoft piano, and make a statement.

I did meet a couple nice older "hippy type" ladies at the Crawford Peace House from DU......(that phrase may haunt me)......but I couldn't buy a bumper sticker, or a DU T shirt? for the cause

But the chance was missed, in my opinion......even my now dead, old "hippy" friend was shocked that more folks weren't there? and he was a die hard Pacifica Radio Subscriber.

I'm 43, and I DO remember that "war" in the jungle.

It's time.

17. No No No
Uppityperson is a poster here who I happened to run into at the Code Pink table in Camp Casey! I did not know she was going to be there. Not you! Lol. We were both looking at the Code Pink stuff and she had on a name tag that said Uppity on it and I asked her if she was DUer Upityperson and we met. I should have thought to explain that, sorry.

6. wish I'd meet you too!
I'm just a sayin' that CNN, FOX, MSNBC were all there waiting......

for something that didn't really happen.....

the tent was up!

the lights were set!

Joan Baez sang songs!

but maybe people didn't like the august heat? * seems to.

I spoke there with several SS agents.....they were all polite, and agreed that I (on my Harley) had the "Right" to protest.....

I just assumed more people would have taken Cindy's clue at the time.

Crawford Peace House rocks......even the rock walk!

donate if you can!

I hope the world will awaken and rise up......this "war" is wrong

I just wanted to remind some of us.....

Showin' up "DOES" matter.

whether you pack a gun, or a guitar......

Vietnam wasn't won/lost with guns.

p.s. oh, and my nic.....it's just a way of sayin' I've settled down

and Joan Baez still has a "great" voice

10. What do you mean?
There is a huge peace movement in Texas. They protest once or twice a week in the Dallas area and in Austin and in Houston. Contact the Peace House in Crawford and they can put you in touch with the groups closest to where you live.

Here are some links to get you started

the crawfordpeace one I follow......

just I'm in CO again now.

Point remains.......when "will" the people "really" object to this "war"?

We can all bitch and moan from our collective keyboards.....

"That Senator Sucks"......"That House Member is teh Geh"....."even worse, He likes the youngins"......

Who the fuck cares.....the World is on fire

Does the general public get it? or are we preachin' to the Choir?

just sayin'....."let your soul be your guidence".....odd from an atheist?

peace

8. I wanted to go, but couldn't get away..
I've been to at least a half-dozen huge protest marches in San Francisco since just before the invasion of Iraq. It's not as though there haven't been millions marching in the streets.

I'm a veteran of the '60s protests.....got arrested on the steps of the Pentagon in 1967.

Part of the fascist playbook is to keep folks struggling to keep a roof over their heads, so they don't have time to resist. Had I gone to Texas that summer, I'm not sure how my rent would have been paid.

I've been known to stand by myself in our small town's square with my anti-war, and anti-chimp signs. It's great! I've had others join in, and I've had lots of people come up and hand me money and tell me to keep up the fight. (No...I'm not one of those legendary "paid protesters", but hey...)

from above post.....no quotes allowed here?

and I realize that the pig farm is far from the beatin' path......but even the folks in Austin were "absent".......

It "will" take folks in the street to stop this "war".

Otherwise the congresscritters assume all is well.

peace

11. I've been to local events since before the invasion and hosted
a Friday night vigil at the beach for a long time. I hope we don't need to but if there events at Camp Casey this year, I will most likely go. :)

13. I hosted Cindy Sheehan in '05 at my place for a major rally.
She joined my peace potluck in Illinois. I've held a peace potluck every year in September for the bike4peace group (bike4peace.org) at my place - FYI. I went to DC that year with my bike4peace guys and was really energized.

I've also been to every single candlelight vigil ever held in my community plus been downtown Chicago to major protests against the war AND when the pRes comes to visit. That doesn't mention petition drives I've worked on locally to get peace intiatives on the ballot in my community, and my campaign work for my anti-war candidate, Tammy Duckworth (who lost dammit).

I wish the Washington DC rally in 2005 would become an annual event - we need a major rallying point for the nation's groups to meet, network and build energy.

That's what I'm sayin'

It's gonna take more than an election to stop this BS.....

People will need to actively object. (guns didn't win in vietnam)

The * has said he doesn't care what the people think....

peace

p.s. odd that bold is allowed, but NO quotes?
