My dream 2008 ticket: Gore/Lieberman
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 08:37 PM by HamdenRice
This is prompted by the thread about Jimmy Carter endorsing Gore in 2008, and the speculation about his choice of VP.

Well, as for Gore/Lieberman, they won in 2000, and as a team, they can win again. Lieberman will bring along the independent republicans, the moderates and conservatives.

3. What a wonderful idea...
But only if they both lose the 2008 Democratic primary. Then they can run as Independent Democrats. Or something.

6. You scared me there.
I must say that Gore/Lieberman was the worst ticket in the history of the Democratic Party. I was about to flip out.

7. Seriously, if you look at it merely in a vote-getting, tactical electablilty sense
that's actually a pretty formidable ticket. Lieberman has weaseled his way into a real centrist, Mccainian status, popular with independents. There's other reasons this ticket would actually be good. Bush is a lame dead duck, but their nominee won't be a Bushie. This could be another close one.

8. Given the scale of crisis, I could imagine a "government of national unity"
but Lieberman wouldn't be the running mate. It would be a popular, "clean" republican rather than a fake one -- either McCain or Powell.

But given the level of corruption of the Republican party, I would be against it completely.

10. Well yes, McCain or Powell would of course be better to corner
the political market except for extreme right wingers. As unlikely as Lieberman is as Gore's pick, I think he would go for it again. I can't see McCain or even Powell being able to accept that nomination from Gore.

14. ARE YOU F*****G KIDDING?
A Dem. presidential candidate picking as his running mate Colin Powell the Bush enabler, the one person who knew the facts, who should have resigned rather than give that UN speech, who might, by publically resigning, have given enough Congresspeople the courage to vote against IWR, THAT Colin Powell?? Or 95% right wing voting John Mc Cain, the two-faced Kerry backstabber who has long-since lost any integrity, THAT John McCain?

19. I didn't say I was for it
I was speculating that it's something that might happen as a matter of political calculation given the degree of our catastrophe. I don't think the new Gore would do any such thing though.

Powell is an interesting case. Obviously you are correct that he lied about WMDs, and sold all his credibility and reputation to get this illegal war on.

On the other hand, some of the stuff that is coming out about how he was played and his desire for revenge might make him a useful ally. Did you know that some of the illegal NSA wiretaps were against Powell, to destroy his attempts at diplomacy before the war? Interesting reporting from England (not a peep here) that John Bolton used illegal NSA wiretaps of Powell to screw him over.

Powell knows where the bodies are buried and when the truth comes out, especially about 9/11, I think he will rat out a lot of people.

12. Gore/Lieberman not as bad as Mitt Romney in 08!!!
Look for the Bush Empire to insert their handpicked successor to the throne sometime next year. With subpoenas and investigations on the way Romney's Presidential ambitions I think is the only way for them to win back the white house. Why?- The GOP won't win back congress in 2008(21 GOP senate incumbents face reelection vs. only 12 DEMS),the white house is the only way to retain power. George Will ,National Review, and FOX News have all been push-in for Mitt to fill the shoes of Dick. Lieberman is still a ASS ,but I think Gore would be Great!

I have no problem with Gore running, none at all. I think we can do better for a running mate though. ;-)
