"View" bleeps Bush-bashing DeVito
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Remarks made by actor Danny DeVito's about
President Bush were bleeped out during an appearance Wednesday morning on ABC's "The View."

DeVito was on the morning gabfest to chat about his current movie, "Deck the Halls," about a battle with another character played by Matthew Broderick to see how many lights and other holiday decorations could be put on their houses.

But it was his comments about the White House -- and its occupant -- that got him in trouble with ABC's Broadcast Standards & Practices. "View," which airs on a seven-second delay, bleeped him twice while he was talking about Bush.

1. I saw this on the countdown, or whatever the replacement was.
One of the phrases was "numbnuts", forget what the other bleep was for.

2. Only twice?
I wonder how many times they would have bleeped George Clooney.

7. He'd been out all night drinking with George Clooney. (A situation I'd like
to be in, BTW.)

11. Oh, hence O'Reilly's stupid comment
I've been out of the loop lately while I try to find another job...I may be facing a layoff early next year.

5. Anyone know exactly what he said?
I mean, if he used the F word, it would have had to be bleeped, since it is network TV. Or was he merely saying Bush is an insane homicidal cretin? That should have been allowed.

9. Apology
I thought that was great, but I heard his publicist apologized! He had nothing to apologize for. Not only was he right the audience was loving it!

(I don't really like how this writer portrayed the appearance, but it does have a bunch of good info.)

A US chatshow resorts to bleeps after a tipsy Danny DeVito lays into George Bush

Ed Pilkington in New York
Thursday November 30, 2006
Guardian Unlimited

...The film star walked shakily onto the set of the daytime chat show The View yesterday, visibly under the influence despite the fact that it was only 11am. He put it down to an all-night bender with George Clooney, fuelled by copious amounts of an Italian lemon liqueur. "I knew it was the last seven limoncellos that was going to get me," he said.

As soon as DeVito sat down on set, his host, Rosie O'Donnell, sensed something was up. "Have you been to sleep yet?" she asked.

"I don't know," he replied.

Then he launched into a rant about George Bush, complaining he hadn't been invited to stay at the White House since he had taken the presidency. ABC bleeped out DeVito's description of Mr Bush, but the New York Post lip-read it as: "numb nuts".

The film star, who was publicising his new movie, Deck the Halls, went on to portray the president as a monkey, a dribbling oaf and as one of the Three Stooges, and baited him over the Democrats' recent electoral victory. "What about that hat trick last week! {The resignation of} Rumsfeld, the House and the Senate - ta-da! I took my clothes off...."

12. If he was that smashed, why did they put him on the air?
I don't watch the show, but the clip looks like four women trying to figure out what to do to keep this guy under control.
