Ok so I went to Jury Duty
and realized that lies have now even spread to the courts.

Did you guys know that our justice system is unique in the world? Yep, you read right... nothing to do with British Common Law, nor do the Brits have a jury system either. Nope we all, who have studied history, imagined that.

Here's the problem... how far are we willing to push national myth making?

By the way... it is not just the court's fault... it seems that this is what people WANT to hear... so they are now saying what folks want to hear.

carry on.

(PS I do intend to send a letter to Jury Services and probably an editorial to our lcoal fish wrap... but it does explain why we can remove Habeas Corpus and we have a bunch of crickets making all but sound)

2. RLOL
I almost had the same reaction at some comments.

What was truly scary were the questions from the lawyers...

that was the constant meme... it was as if there were Talking Points handed out.

As to the questions... well there were questions on the fifth amendment. After all it appears it covers more than just protecting yourself from self incrimination... I did not know that and wish I had my copy of the Constitution handy.

The case also involved extensive questions on our attitudes regarding law enforcement. by the way I'll serve in a criminal case the day hell freezes over, family ties to law enforcement.

I loved the beyond reasonable doubt exercise, not only did I find it boring, but had to wonder how far we have gone down the rabbit hole that this had to be even explained.

I guess it was a good civic class of sorts, but the talking points of we are unique, nobody else does this in the world came to be.

Though the judge did roll eyes when I did mention habeas corpus and magna carta when she asked a direct question about prisoner rights.

I don't know whether she rolled them because I ahem knew off it, or because of what is going on politically

Oh and I was not selected... the defense lawyer dismissed me.

;-)

what it literally means in Latin, bring the body.

8. Why would the judge roll eyes at that? Were you being asked to
define the term?

it was the pre qualification for jurors.

It came into what I used to do, which discualified me from the case...

used to be a medic in Mexico so they kind of wanted to know if I knew the difference between napoleoonic and British Common Law, and tha was the opening volley... after all Mexico does not have it encoded, really...

The sacary part is that I do know the difference, very well

7. Asking questions during the voir dire annoys the attorneys...
voir dire (vwär dîr) n.
A preliminary examination of prospective jurors or witnesses under oath to determine their competence or suitability

I got called for a drunk driving case and wanted too much information about biological stuff...amount/type of alcohol vs time vs food consumed etc.
They decided I wasn't the type of juror they were looking for...:eyes:

I was taking Anatomy & Physiology at the time, so the questions just kinda fell out...

11. You're gonna wind up on a grand jury.
Grand juries are much less picky. If you show up and understand English, you're empaneled.
