Joe Lieberman will vote with the Democratic caucus and his vote means we are the majority party in the US Senate. This means Dems will control committees and have a big say on what advances to the floor.
Con:
Joe Lieberman will blackmail democrats with his vote (he already has made insinuations that if he doesn't feel welcome he wants he might take a "walk" over to the GOP). He has hired a very right wing Republican to be his communications director--which is making Dems very nervous.
for the dems to gain more seats in '08 because there are so many more R's up for reelection. If he switches now he might find himself in the minority in two years. That may keep him in line somewhat. Right now the dems are stuck with him. Their big mistake was not supporting Lamont more strongly in the first place.
I'd add I.O.T. (Intent on Turmoil)to that. His bossing around/hints of dissension of Democratic leaders and fellow Democrats are both worrisome and foretell the future.
5. As long as Lieberman caucuses with the Democrats
he counts in the Democratic column. Be real people. Would you rather give the Republicans control of the Senate? Deal with it for 2 years and then increase the Democratic majority in the Senate. Remember: "Keep your friends close and your enemies, closer". No need to bite your nose off to spite your face over this one.
