Hoyer: Iraqis must take responsibility
American support for the fledgling Iraqi government is not unconditional, and
Iraq should expect changes in the U.S. role, incoming House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Saturday.

"In the days ahead, the Iraqis must make the tough decisions and accept responsibility for their future," Hoyer, D-Md., said during the weekly Democratic radio address. "And the Iraqis must know: Our commitment, while great, is not unending."

Hoyer's comments were taped Wednesday, before an escalation in sectarian violence in Iraq. At least 215 Shiites were killed in bomb and mortar attacks Thursday in Sadr City. Shiites retaliated Friday by burning six Sunni Arabs alive and killing 19 others in attacks on Sunni mosques.

Once in power, Hoyer said, the Democrats hope to work with Republicans and the Bush administration to change direction in Iraq war plans, "because, clearly, the current strategy is not working."

4. We are through the looking glass - black is white and white is black...
We help by bombing and shooting, we liberate by occupying, we free them by killing them...

3. Disgusting
The US and UK swaggered into Iraq and trashed their country. Millions of people warned that the current chaos would be the result, but Bush and Bliar knew best. So now Hoyer wants to blame the consequences on the Iraqi people? It's their fault, not ours, that 655,000 men, women and children are dead and millions are living in despair and fear? Yes, get the troops out before they trigger more suffering, but not with this hypocritical pretense that our countries bear none of the blame. A crime of terrible proportions has been committed and just bringing the troops home with a note saying: "Your fault - we wash our hands of you ingrates" merely adds insult to injury.

7. What I read him saying is, "This is your warning, we are going to
be leaving, get ready to take responsibility for what happens after that." What do you want to do, send the planes in and not even tell them we are leaving?

5. Arrogance has never been in short supply for Mr. Hoyer.
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 11:50 AM by shance
After the Bush Administration, along with the total guidance and control of his father, have fully destroyed the entire infrastructure of Iraq, the good ole boys now fully control their oil and natural resources and are hiking up our gas prices every day just because they can, Mr. Hoyer an obvious friend and good ole boy himself is now telling the abused, murdered and totally terrorized Iraqis that the hollow shell of a country they have left is now THEIR responsibility.

You are an arrogant dilletante and humiliating excuse of a leader. More than anything I wish you now had to live in Iraq since you are one of those responsible for creating what has occurred there.

6. Maybe your government should take responsibility for state sponsored terrorism
Mr. Hoyer.

It's just as ugly when you pervert the truth as as when BushCo perverts the truth.

9. Yep
Put the burden on the victim.

We're gonna bomb the crap out of you, destroy your infrastructure, your hospitals, your schools, your agriculture, loot your villages and then tell you you gotta get your shit together. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps after we've stolen your boots. Standard fare.

Is genocide what Steny calls commitment?
