Yet another thread about Thanksgiving family freeper fighting!
I thought I had calmed down from election fever.

Turkey being passed around, and I'm having a conversation with my BIL, a few seats down the table, about how many "non-partisan" seats we took in our red county (we gained 3, the Repubs lost 4...a real blow for freedom in our area). We did a little gloating about the national gains in the House & Senate.

Sitting next to me is one of his brother's girlfriends, a middle aged freeper cow, 15 years older than him, constantly on his brother to marry her, a real born again type, with a diamond encrusted cross around her neck...because that's what Jesus would wear. But I digress.

She's sitting there huffing and puffing, clicking her tongue, every time we mention the word "Democrat".

I ignore the cow and continue my conversation with my BIL. I asked him who he likes for '08 (he likes Bayh, I like Edwards). We mentioned Hillary, and this is where the freeper cow, whose name escapes me, couldn't mind her OWN BUSINESS, and had to make snarky remarks about both Bill and Hillary, and how she thought they were "hypocrites".

Well, I had had enough of her huffing and puffing, and this snide comment just triggered me. So I turned to her and put my glass down rather firmly on the table (less than a slam, but close) and said, dripping with sarcasm... "IS THAT A FACT? CARE TO ELABORATE?" The whole table went silent.(18 people)

So she says "Well, well, well....uh..uh..uh...I just think they're...well...huff..huff...puff...puff...click...click...CORRUPT."

BAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAA....The CLINTON'S are CORRUPT? This from a woman whose Congressman, up until very recently, was Duke Cunningham? I proceeded to remind her about that, along with a half dozen other examples. I'm just so sick of all the Clinton bashing...give it UP already.

Evidently, according to the play by play I later received from Mom, the fire was coming out of my nostrils and smoke from my ears. I get chewed out for taking this cow down a peg. I REFUSE to apologize. She chose to butt into our conversation. I think she got what she deserved. I, for one, am done making nice with these people.

How would you have handled it?

2. Holiday dinners should be enjoyed ....
and such fiery discussions left until your enter the billiard room for cigars and expensive whiskey .....

I have a mixed family: VERY Liberal and VERY Reich Wing ..... We do not talk politics during dinner ....

In fact, we do not talk politics at all .... why ? .... no minds will be changed: EVERYONE will just get angry ... it will ruin the mood and send some home early ..... doesnt make any sense to us ....

EVERYONE follows the rule, and we have a good time with the cigars, whiskey and poker ....

Save the fight for a regular day ....

14. Same here
We are the Dems in a Republican Family and aside from my 18 year old niece (who just hates W and likes to aggravate her parents with that fact) we avoid political discussions at family gatherings. There isn't much point as you say no minds will be changes and there are other topics to discuss with little kids around. I wouldn't shy from a discussion, but we keep the topic away from politics at all times at the family events. I am not having my Turkey dinner ruined by anyone if I can help it.

3. Good for you.
I have the good fortune not to live near any freeper relatives. For the past three years I've hosted Thanksgiving for about 8 or so like-minded folks, so if the talk turns to politics, we're on the same wave length.

5. I would have handled it
the same way, I never let any freeper get away with some snide remark. If I let one snide remark pass, I can expect many more to come.

I shut them down quick, no cut and run from this liberal.

:)

6. Thanks!
Haha...no cut and run from THIS liberal either.

It was rather ironic that some family members gave me a little chewing out later. When this freeper cow made some comment about "well, there are Conservative Democrats, and Liberal Republicans", our 73 year old mother blurted out "HAH!", and then put her hand over her mouth.

Mom is a Dem. And I think my BIL was secretly enjoying it. But the "peace at any cost" factions felt otherwise.

7. I would of done the same.
And the lone Freeper left in my family made the mistake of telling me he didn't want to talk politics with me because it made him think too much. BIG mistake on his part.
If she couldn't back up her accusation and didn't expect to be confronted she should of STFU and that is what I would tell any that want to keep the peace. She inserted herself in a conversation between others.

8. Stand Up To Them...Every Time!
The RWingnuts are the ones who have deliberately
poisoned political discourse and the time has come
to shut them down at every opportunity.
Fuck politeness! They take advantage of it.

Damn Right

If you are polite to these asshole freepers, they then think of you as being weak.

Iwin, never EVER apologizes to your freeper family members for voicing your opinion, do they ever apologizes to you for voicing their opinion?

I suspect not ... never apologizes to any freeper for giving an honest opinion.

And always remember, a freepers opinion Is derived from bullshit, while an opinion from a liberal Is derived from facts.

:)

9. I like to trap the bashers into the liar part
"He's a pathological liar"
"If his lips are moving, he's lying"
"Everything he says is a lie"

I usually challenge them by asking them to name one lie....without reference to Monica.
If he was such a liar for 8 years, there must be hundreds that spring to mind.
Few can think of any at all.

Now....we can talk about Buxh the liar, starting with "I'm a compassionate Conservative".

10. Typical!
Oh, so typical! Name-calling, accusations, rudeness, and no facts to back up her statements whatsoever!

These people have called us "un-American", "un-patriotic", "traitors", "terrorist-appeasers" and everything else in the book for the last twelve years and have gotten a pass. lwin, you did good, and I'm proud of you! Hypocrites like that need to STFU. I would have handled it exactly the same way.

12. You handled it well.
I, on the other hand, would have carved her up (fugitively) along with the turkey. Then ended with a remark that I heard here at DU the other day:

"At least Bill Clinton didn't make Monica Secretary of State".

That is such a perfect line, and I am soooooooooo gonna steal it.

Freepers are so stuck on Bill and Hill. You would never know that an imbecile has been in charge for 6 years.
