Schools adopting tasers/17 yo killed by police with taser/video of tasering
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 12:32 AM by AJ9000
This article about a 17 yo killed by a taser touches on tasers in schools. I'm opposed to these being
in schools, the opportunity for misuse/abuse seems great, as well as
their being potentialy deadly.

"It's not a real black and white-type issue," said Kenneth Trump, a
spokesman
for the group. "In a school setting, there are some gray areas. There are
unanswered questions, and there is not a lot of body of research into
the use
of these on juveniles and adolescents."

Some students, though, are speaking out against the Tasers. In
Wichita, Kan.,
security guards at the middle and high schools began carrying Tasers this
school year. In March, students delivered to school officials letters
questioning Tasers. Two student groups collected more than 250 signatures
demanding the police and school provide more information. The school
didn't
respond."

END SNIP

Here is a video of a taser being used. They are used by many police
forces to gain compliance, something I'm against. The women tasered in
this video had a crummy attitude, but hey, so do some cops.

The two male cops could have just pulled her out of the car and cuffed
her. Using the taser is not worth the risk and suffering unless she
was pressenting a real threat.

I suspect some school districts will start using the taser in similar
fashion if the public lets them get away with it.

1. Tazers have a nice body count building up.
But some people on here will still defend these things.

3. I don't think these things are going any where
soon. It might be more beneficial if we were to attack the regulations for when force can be used. And bump up accountability. I have a friend who's a cop and from what i see and hear they really do live above the law. Cops don't rat on cops. We need more accountability because no matter what their toys will always get better.
