Iran calls "checkmate" on Bush's folly in Iraq...
http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/

Bush's folly in Iraq has failed in its attempt to weaken and isolate Iran in the region. On the contrary, Iran is stronger and has been emboldened by the US administration's inability to change and the political cage that the Bush administration has locked themselves into.

If it is Iran's strategy to use the US military to fight their wars against the Sunni in Iraq, at the same time re-open negotiations with Syria, it is brilliant.

Instead of dividing Iran and Syria, Bush has managed to unite them.

Do the republicans realize how large of a disaster they have created?

3. They don't care
...if you're talking about the administration and its neocon/neolib snakehead, the repugs on the Hill, and bushbots. Bush**'s catastrophic success pleases them all as long as the war profits keep flowing and the chickenshit bigots/racists have an enemy to blame for their insecurities.

4. You are exactly right!
Even after the thing with Serbia, which should have told us how deep this religious divide can get, Bush &co still wanted to get control of the oil. If they had anyone who could read history, they would find out that even the great Muslim leader, Saladin, couldn't get the Shia sect that controlled Egypt in the tenth century, to join him in fighting the crusades forces. He had to assassinate the Shia leader and put his own guy in there to finally get control of the Egyptian forces. But now Iran didn't need to do anything tricky, just let numbnuts send our forces in there and now the Shia have control. So, naturally, they would like to negotiate to keep us in there for a few more years, keeping the Sunni at bay. Checkmate!

5. One of the positive things that could occur as a result of the Bush Junta's
disastrous policy of slaughtering hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, torturing many innocent prisoners and creating chaos in Iraq is enlightenment within Israel as to where their rightwing politicians and war profiteers have led them. If Israel survives the rightwing's alliance with the despised Bush regime, wiser and more intelligent leadership may emerge, which is able to see out of the medieval military fortress that Israel has become and begin to construct a policy of REGIONAL self-determination aimed at the security and prosperity of all Middle Eastern people. The devil's bargain between the Bush Junta and Israel, of massive military support and protection, in exchange for supporting or carrying out Bush Cartel goals in the region, has put Israel in more peril than it has ever been in. I liken it to living in a bad neighborhood, buying lots of guns to protect yourself, surrounding your house with electrified fences and guard dogs, and supporting fascist politicians who rip off the community's tax money, and defund education, medical care for the poor, parks, libraries, museums, small business development, good community policing and everything that could improve the lives of the people around you. Disastrous short-term thinking. Granted, Israelis have been in a state of war since the beginning, and it is very difficult to think long term in that circumstance. But perhaps the crisis that the Bushites have created will spark the dramatic change of direction that Israel needs to take.

6. Oh they realize it alright, they're just hoping the sheep continue to remain distracted
long enough for them to shift the blame. It is working perfectly for them so far.:banghead::grr:
