A brief message to all DU-ers
Guys, a lot of us are upset at each other. I've done it, too. Yesterday I got in a vicious fight with other Democrats about whether PC is OK or not. I apologize for the rude things I said whether the other parties apologize or not. It is you guys' decision, but I want you to know I still care about you and would fight and die by your side to protect democracy, protect America, and defend and progress the Democratic Party. So my grudge is over, and I offer my apologies.

We watched as the Republicans stole and then harbored power in the House and Senate, and hijacked due process in this country, installing a military-industrialist/neocon dauphin to the Oval Office and then wrecking all our nation stood for. While ascending to almost complete authority, their rancor was focused on us, the liberals, Democrats, and liberal Democrats. They made us the scapegoat and enemy, a common tactic straight out of the fascist playbook. And it worked. While they were able to focus their energies on us and how to tear us down, they rose to the very top of power.

And then it fell apart.

Once they had that power, guys, they began doing what we are doing now that WE are in power: finding and highlighting differences, distancing off from one another and seeking occasion to argue, infight and dispute with one another. This broke apart their former lockstep tribalism, and then it took one minor thing - an IM sent to a page - to start the glass tower falling apart.

Please, let's not let that happen to us.

Democrats of DU, I implore you to cool down, think before you react, and look past these pixels on the screen to remember the person behind them, sending them perhaps in hot anger, is STILL A HUMAN BEING, and STILL A DEMOCRAT. That's why we're here. Not because we agree on all things, but because we agree on THE IMPORTANT THINGS.

I love you all and don't want to see us argue. We came here to support each other. Please let's continue to do that. I pledge to no longer post flamebait, accidentally or not, and to respond with politeness and respect to every post that incites me or makes me disagree. That's my mission here from now on. I care about all of us and don't want to see what happened to the Rethuglicans happen here to us, now that we have the chance to unite in brotherhood and change the world.

Republicans infought and lost the empire in six years.
We are about to lose it in six weeks.

Let's not do that.
Democrats unite, forever.
We are one. :grouphug:

Thank you for reading my rant.

2. The trouble is - with a place like DU
We don't know if people are democrats or republicans or tribbles.

If people insist on using right-wing sexist/racist talking points - I may well assume that they are right-wing sexist/racist people.

If they don't want to sound like right-wing sexist/racist people - then they should think about what they are saying.

There have to be standards. Though I admit - some people's standards are going to be higher than others.

8. Well said. I agree.
And even if we could somehow be sure that everyone here really is a democrat, there are bigoted democrats. We need to keep up the pressure to keep the party on the good course.

We've seen in the past that our party is not inherently progressive and does not automatically do the right thing. We need to keep influencing the party in the right direction, even if some people might get offended.

3. Are you saying the Democrats shouldn't IM pages?
I disagree with your assertion that we are about to lose it in six weeks. The media has been blowing any small procedural debate into a full blown civil war within the party.

This train hasn't even left the station.

5. Lots of people here with strongly held beliefs.
Disagreement and debate isn't bad.

It's the personalization of it that is destructive and does no good whatsoever.

7. If everyone agreed on everything, this board would be DEAD, or worse...
It would be Live Journal, where we would giggle and chat about our new furniture, swap recipes, and discuss our travel plans. Or it might like that moronic self-help group called Free Republic, where making tired jokes about oral and anal sex seems to be nearly as unvaryingly amusing as blaming Bill Clinton.

9. The people want corruption in DC dealt with by Democrats - I side with those
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 05:01 PM by blm
Democrats who work against corruption and closed government, and will not give an inch to those who call themselves Democrats but prove willing to protect BushInc at every opportunity.

So, since there are those latter types here at DU and in places of leadership within the party, it's going to be tough going.
