and had emails thanking me saying I helped stop this or that from happening.

Try True Majority , Moveon.org and the Democratic Committee sites.

I'm not an eastern Missouri resident and don't have a dog in this fight, but if you investigate and get to the root of the problem then report back to DU on what actions could be taken to remedy it, you might find some support. Just an idea.
