Amid growing anger over the Legislature's refusal to take a stand on a ballot measure to ban gay marriage, Governor Mitt Romney and conservative groups will rally Sunday at the State House to bring pressure on lawmakers to take a vote.

Kris Mineau, president of the Massachusetts Family Institute, said he hopes that the protest will draw many of the 170,000 people who signed petitions seeking to put the question, which defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, on the 2008 ballot.

Any ideas for signs? I'm thinking of borrowing the one from the Daily Show the other night: "God Hates Fags and Shellfish" :evilgrin:

8. I just got off the phone with MassEquality, and they ARE planning something

They debated not showing-up at all, since, as far as they're concerned, this is all over. We've won. Our work here is done.

However, they decided to make it a point to have people show-up-- especially gay couples with families and children.

I suggested that a good compromise between protesting and not showing-up would be to make sure people only hold blank signs, the implied message being, "We're here, but the debate is over. We've won. There's nothing more we need to say."

I've been told that my "blank sign" idea will be considered. (Some people call me crazy, others say I "Think Out-Of-The-Box.")

If they don't go with my blank signs idea, then they're going to want to keep everything positive (no fun!) and refrain from anti-Romney messages and such.

So, if you want to go, start making signs with a positive, inclusive, pro-equality message.

("Lions Cure Pharisees" is, unfortunately, NOT positive. Sigh.)

Try to recruit gay couples with their children to show-up. Straight allies, pro-equality church people, etc.

MassEquality should be sending out an official email shortly.
