Pelosi urged to skip over Alcee Hastings for intelligence chair, owes millions in legal fees
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/16021609.htm

A conservative watchdog group is urging likely House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to skip over Rep. Alcee Hastings, a Miramar Democrat, when it comes to selecting the next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

In a letter to Pelosi on Wednesday, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton cited what he called Hastings' ''staggering liabilities'' listed on his most recent financial disclosure statements. Hastings owes millions of dollars in legal fees, and his office said they stem from battling bribery charges as a federal judge in the 1980s. Hastings was impeached amid allegations of misconduct involving bribery.

'Any ordinary citizen with Rep. Hastings' demonstrated record of lack of integrity, ethical misdeeds and financial problems would be denied a security clearance,'' Fitton said in the letter. ``Respectfully, you should not put our nation's security at risk by placing Rep. Hastings at the head of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.''

2. JUDICIAL WATCH??? Now we do what Judicial Watch recommends?
You do realize that is the watchdog group that was on Bill Clinton's ass for YEARS...at the urging of the Richard Mellon Scaife bunch, right? Judicial Watch needs to take a closer look at Tom Delay, Jack Abramoff, Tom Foley and Dennis Hastert and leave Pelosi the hell alone.

You know, THE Miami Herald, the so-called paper which is staffed with writers paid by the Bush White House.

8. He also had a trial and was found innocent, but the Impeachment could not be overturned.

The Senate also had the OPTION of denying him to ever serve in the Federal Government again and they didn't do that.

He's been reelected every 2 years since 1992. IF he was as dirty as they say he is, why hasn't it been exposed yet? Heaven knows they've had plenty of time to do that.....14 years? Where's the evidence of his crime? I'm still waiting.

9. Hey, lots of people here would like Judicial Watch.

Or at least, their sub-page, "Hillary Watch.", which is dedicated to exposing the many flaws of Hillary -- much like the good folks here are. And if you get tired of that one, you can read about Judicial Watch's tireless battle against immigration. Or "activist judges." Hmm, let's see, a self-proclaimed conservative organization obsessed with the Clintons, "activist judges," and immigration. Yes, I think I know right where to file this one.

13. I've met him
He is a jerk. He was on an airplane at Dulles airport that was pulled off the departure schedule shortly after 9-11 for a bomb hoax. They put the plane on an outer runway and wouldn't let anybody off the plane until they checked it and everybody on board out. He was on his cell phone to the newspapers and his lawyers from the plane threatening to sue the airlines because they wouldn't let him off.

I tried to google the story, but I couldn't find it. I'm sure its there somewhere. I just remember it because I had already met him and already thought he was a jerk.

12. we're letting Judicial Watch tell us who to appoint???
I don't think so.

I don't THINK so.

Fitton: "Any ordinary citizen with Rep. Hastings' demonstrated record of lack of integrity, ethical misdeeds and financial problems would be denied a security clearance,'' Fitton said in the letter.

Fitton, here's what you don't get. It's the secrets that make a person blackmailable and a danger to national security. Not the knowns. Nobody can blackmail Alcee Hastings. We already know what he did.

One would think that Judicial Watch would like to have someone like Alcee to harass! So what's the deal here?
