What an ordinary Iraqi thinks of the election results.
I've been e-mailing an Iraqi blogger and she has been gracious enough to reply.

First part of the e-mail I sent her the day before the elections:

> Hopefully, the elections tomorrow will bring some sanity to our government
> and curb the power of Bush and his friends in their endless search for
> "victory". Which, in reality, is their endless struggle for power at the
> cost of so many innocent lives.
>
> I mourn for the thousands of dead in your country. Just as I mourned for
> the thousands of innocent dead in Vietnam. All were sacrificed for the
> ambitions of politicians.

Her response:

Hi Michael,
Sorry to reply so late, but I have to have a combination of factors
working together to spend time at my computer (electrcity present,
sleeping baby, free time, etc). :) I appreciate your emails. They are
very interesting and don't bother me at all.
I'm happy, as I am assuming you are, that the Democrats got the
majority in both houses, and I hope it helps things here and in the
States; though I am a bit cynical that it will.
And wow, I admire your position during the Vietnam war, that you had
the foresight and wisdom to see it as a pointless war.
Gotta go, the baby wants my attention.
Best to you and your wife,
Fatima
