Tom Delay posts at RedState - Lays out game plan
http://redstate.com/stories/the_parties/republicans/whats_that_thumping

It's Time We Get Back To First Principles
By Tom DeLay—
RedState is pleased to welcome the Hon. Tom DeLay, former Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, to the front page.

<snip>
Some self-described conservatives have even said that the House and Senate spent too much time on ‘wedge issues’ like illegal immigration and gay marriage rather than engaging in protracted battles on social security and entitlement reform.

It seems to me that the protection of our border and the legal definition of the fundamental building block of our society are issues at least worthy of consideration in the public square. These fundamental issues are at least as important as retirement security and revamping a broad range of government programs. In fact, the 109th Congress raised all of those issues, and I believe that our nation’s public life was richer for the debate.

YES, PLEASE! Continue working on these failed wedge issues from prison sir! It will provide us with endless hours of enjoyment.

Second, we must lead an effort to radically redesign government and return it to its constitutional roots. The problem with our government isn’t simply that it has gotten too big or that it spends too much – but that it is involved in aspects of our lives and our economy in which it has no business.

Huh? Wow! I agree with you, I don't want government to become "involved in aspects of our lives and our economy in which it has no business." It would be shameful for our government to insert itself into the personal lives and life decisions of homosexuals, unexpectedly pregnant women and terminally ill patients. Thank you for seeing it that way.

<snip>
Fourth, in order to achieve true justice, we must make every effort to reverse the culture of death that threatens the weakest and the most infirm among us. Conservatives want a society that respects and protects all innocent human life regardless of some political activists notion that some lives may not be of sufficient quality to avoid termination at the hands of an abortionist or a euthanizer.

Oh well. And sir, "Euthanizer"??

At least you've given up that lame "judicial activist" meme, right?

Fifth, conservatives are united in their agreement that we must bring into check the powers of an increasingly imperial judiciary which seeks to manufacture, rather than interpret the law. The Judicial Branch must be returned to coequal status with the Legislative and the Executive, lest we undermine the very principles of Order, Justice and Freedom upon which we believe our society to be built.

Oh, jeepers!

Last, but certainly not least, the really lame rallying cry::

So for me, and I hope for many conservatives, this week is a time of reflection and rededication and not one of recrimination and retreat. The ‘thumping’ I hear is of a conservative movement with a strongly beating heart.

5. That Honorable status they granted him was enough to make me
:puke:

...but I read on...lots more :puke:

Among the :puke: was the "imperial judiciary" bent on manufacturing rather than interpreting law. I have no idea how we let the thugs get away with saying that liberal judges legislate from the bench. How is banning abortion not elgislating from the bench??? They consider it legislating from the bench only when the interpretation goes against their principles.

7. Which is precisely why I stopped reading, lol
Any site that respects DeLay that much isn't gonna offer anything new or any important insights. They will just spout out and repeat the same tired lies and bullshit.

6. check the comments
even those at RedState are not impressed with his dragging the corpse of Terri Schaivo and gay marriage into the strategy again.

More coherent dissenters than sycophants.

He kept talking about how "we" were going to fix this little setback - I kept laughing outloud & yelling: "But felons can't vote!" Felt good.

18. He really has a thing about judges, doesn't he?
"the powers of an increasingly imperial judiciary which seeks to manufacture, rather than interpret the law."

Of course, most criminals don't like judges, so perhaps that isn't so surprising.

Why does he even think people want to hear his views? I'm sure his own party absolutely loves him, after he helped to give them all a bad name (not that most of them needed much help!) and handed his own seat to a Democrat by being such a crook.

20. the heart may beat, but the brain is degenerated and dead

This reads just like the smarmy 2004 Texas Republican campaign platform, just slightly toned down. The stupidity is the same, the position is the same, the lack of vision and desire to live in a medieval agrarian European society is the same. DeLay has learned nothing from all his failures of 1998-2006. The Republican war against the 14th Amendment and Modernity is lost outside the Deep South and Southern Plains. In 2008 it will be a loss there too.

Btw, the latest Massachusetts poll, published November 7 in the Republican tabloid Boston Herald, is 35% voting for a gay marriage ban and 61% against such a ban. That's a roughly 8% solidification and/or shift in the past year; the year before that also saw 8% gain. Gay marriage...coming soon to a state near yours!
