Why is it the Democrats responsibility to work with the repubs?
I have heard this constantly from newscasters and commentators since the election - they are constantly putting the onus on the Democrats to work with the Republicans, to be bi-partisan, to work fairly for the good of the country, to be nice to the republicans, blah blah blah.

As though during all this time, it was the Democrats who refused to play nicely, and now that they have the power it's their responsibility to stop not playing nice.

What the fucking fuck?!?!?!

Where have these news people and commentators been the past 12 years?

No, assholes - now it's time for the Republicans to start working with the Dems.

24. Not to mention ethics and morals.
Repukes can grow up and join our team, or get out of the way.

3. We want to win the White House in 2008, right?
And not lose the House or Senate?

Then we need to show that we are BETTER than the Republicans, who went power crazy when they controlled all three branches of government.

5. excellent post
I can't believe all of these unreasonable expressions of not having to work with the GOP.

do we seriously want more of the same? do we seriously want to appear as childish and ignorant as them?

6. I think some people
have trouble focusing on the longer term goals.

And I guess it's just human to want to slap back, but it's not a good strategy for governing well.

8. I think the point is that the political caste has put the onus on the Dems
to reach out to Republicans and put little to no pressure on Republicans to do the same. If we're going to reach across the aisle there damn well be someone reaching back.

13. Funny, I don't remember saying that the dems SHOULDN'T work with Repubs.
Of course they should, and I'm sure they'll take the high road and they actually will.

I'm bitching about this becuase the media make it out to seem that all the struggles in the government so far have been because the dems aren't playing nicey nicey, and it's now their responsibility to play the role of the sensible, teamwork-focused side.

But the media never said that about the republicans, and aren't saying it now.

In fact, even when the Dems didn't have the power, the media kept saying that it's up to the Dems to play like a team, work in a non-partisan way, and try to get along.

Now, if the media were saying, "It's time for the Democrats to be the team builders and reach across the aisle because we have clearly seen over the last twelve years that the Republicans can't be trusted to do so, except when they reach across the aisle to fuck the dems in the ass", then I would be okay with it.

But they aren't.

Please don't misinterpret me and put words in my mouth that I am saying that the dems should play hardball and tell the republicans to go fuck themselves.

If you'd read what the OP says instead of what you wish it says, you would know that I am complaining solely about the media.

25. I answered that question in my post
If you had read the OP, you would know that I was not implying that the Dems should play hardball and tell the repukes to go fuck themselves.

If you had my post in response to yours, you would know the answer to the question you have now posed.

THis is not rocket science; it's really quite simple.

27. Yeah, whatever.
:eyes:

I make argument against point A, you tell me how wrong I am by arguing against point B, a point which I never even mentioned, not even tangentially, and then you come back and say that it's me who's putting words in people's mouths.

:eyes:

:eyes:

This is my last post in this sub-thread since clearly no meaningful dialogue is going to happen. I look forward to seeing, in the random dart-throwing of your argument, where, in comparison to the actual target, the non-relevant points of your next argument will find their expression. Perhaps not even in the game room itself! Mayhaps the garage! Or somewhere outside! If you choose to post.

Anyway, I am atwitter to see where the next dart goes.

9. Now is the time for the Democrats to starting working for the Democrats.
You know, those mostly nameless Democrats who voted for them. Instead of the Republicans who don't vote for them and the "independents" who vote for them on a whim.

And I don't mean just saying "the adults are in charge." The repukes are real good about saying stuff, short on delivery.

14. I agree
It's like it's all our responsiblity to reach out. Since the Republicans lost because of their mismanagement of the country, maybe they should be the one to reach out! They were, after all, the ones that called us traitors for questioning them!

22. I agree with you
Keep in mind though the democrats are the party that usually takes the high road and the republicans just care about themselves and their power. I would still invite them to things and let them be involved but I wouldn't let them interfere in the agenda set. I keep thinking about all the nasty things the republicans have done to them: from keeping them out of legislation meetings when they're supposed to be there to rewriting and/or adding things to bills at the last minute and pushing things through. Then again if the democrats don't work with the republicans it might make them look bad like people have a bad view of them now.

23. It puts me in mind of an abusive relationship
"I won't hit you for no reason anymore, so don't give me any reasons."

Or "I won't cheat on you anymore so long as you don't make me want to."

That's what play nice sounds like to me.
