Forget impeachment --it ain't gonna happen...
and besides, why take Bush out of all the investigations he's about to encounter:evilgrin:

Why would someone want to let him off the hook by sending him his walking papers? I just don't get it. This is a dream come true. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONTROLS CONGRESS! Talk about squirmin' and shakin'...lol!

No, impeachment is a waste of time for many reasons.

1. Impeachment can happen. Conviction is another story. 67 votes in the
Senate, we ain't got. At least not now.

15. We have enough power to influence enough Republicans to go along with it

especially if the evidence is damning. I would just prefer to have it as a threat with which to ensure passage of our legislation. It's a golden opportunity to reverse the voodoo that George Bush has cast over this country. It's like having pictures of your married boss sleeping with a prostitute.

3. It's a complex issue
On one hand, if the right-wingers did something illegal while in office, they deserve a legal remedy against them.

On the other hand, if the American people don't want it and the Democratic Party pushed it, we will look bad. So I just don't know.

I've said this before. I'm not sure where I stand on impeachment. I've never been especially keen on the idea. I'm definitely no supporter of Duh-bya by any means (every time he speaks on TV, I just keep yelling "shut up!" until he stops talking), but I'm not sure about impeachment.

I know that there are DUers who disagree. No offense. I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. Whatever happens, we should stick together.

4. How about for the sake of justice
We have to try whether we have the votes in the Senate or not. You can't let a criminal just walk away no matter what.

I would hope to see articles of impeachment before the end of January for both Bush and Cheney. Impeach them both at the same time and Nancy's president. That is what I call a dream come true.

9. Because if he's guilty
which he is, then he's guilty in or out of office. By all means investigate them, to a degree they have already admitted guilt by withdrawing from the ICC. However I would rather see a solid criminal conviction then an impeachment that is nothing but words on paper or that fails on some it's one thing to know and another to show technicality. This would be much easier to do with them completely out of power.

10. Hear Hear!!! Too little time...
Too much to investigate. He will be investigated years after he has a DEM take the WH. He will go down in history as the worst President ever. His legacy will be deceit and deficits. We don't have time to both impeach the asshole AND SAVE THE COUNTRY.

I'd rather save the country - we don't have much time left.

12. I hate to mention how twisted that sounds.

Especially since impeachment is designed to be the remedy. Remember, impeachment involves investigation, charges through articles of impeachment, and then conviction and removal or acquittal and stay in office.

18. But - where are you buying that TIME.
If investigations immediately warrant impeachment proceeding - GREAT!!!! the shrub and the shooter have both said they would fight subpoenas, they are shredding documents as we type. I would take years to work through. I'd like to see impeachment proceedings in mid-2007 (min. amt of time ness. to get the a-holes under oath)

We are on the cusp. Let the Hague deal w/ his worthless ass. Our country is going down in flames - I don't want to paint the walls right now.

11. Impeachment might still happen.
These things have a way of taking on a life of their own. Others in this forum have picked up on this element of impeachment, especially those of us who were around during Watergate, when precisely this happened.

If the investigations next year turn a corner and tilt public opinion to the point where impeachment starts appearing above the fold on page one, there's going to be no stopping it. That happened in January, 1974, and Nixon was gone in six months.

All we as Dems have to do is keep the pressure on for hearings, subpoenas, and investigations, maybe with an independent prosecutor (or two) and a grand jury (or two) thrown into the mix.

It could happen. Not saying it will, though.

13. I couldn't see any sarcasm at all.

But then, *I'm* not an enormous fan of the impeachment idea, mostly because of the majority necessary to actually prevent acquittal, which would be a REALLY bad consequence, also the fact that it carries no sentence and might be spun by the media as a trial, which it isn't. Impeachment doesn't preclude criminal proceedings but I wouldn't put it past the MSM to pretend they did without REALLY saying so, thus making it difficult to get a conviction. However, I will be more than happy to change my position after investigations and their results lead to an overwhelming support for impeachment, which is looking more and more likely every day...

17. Bush must be removed from office before facing war crimes tribunal
We need to get a Democratic president back in office to sign on to the ICC and then send Bush to the Hague.

If we do not follow the constitution, if we just use our upper hand for blackmail purposes...we are just as bad as them.

The constitution is what holds this nation together and I believe that our founders knew what they were doing when they included the impeachment clause. It is the pursuit of upholding our constitution that will expose the rest of the evil doers in our congress, which is deperately needed if we are to return to a functioning system of checks and balances.
