Looking at my keyboard and examining the context in which it is used here, I can guess that it might be a freeper spelling of "owned", but I'm not 100% sure. Is that correct, or is it something else?

on edit: Not only do I not know what it means, I also typed it wrong!

24. LOL
And, no, I'm not trying to channel the Big Giant Head.

Nope, it's a playful but very knowledgable pup who's willing to hear all sides. It wears the bubble to help filter out bullshit. And, in times like this when there's a lot of shit hitting the fan, the BS is flying and freeper heads exploding, it doubles as protective headgear. It's a dangerous world out there. ;)

not FReeperville. "O" & "P" are right next to each other on the keyboard, I suppose the 3 gets in there from its proximity to W. Check out WIKI for the full story. (That's how I know the little I do about the topic).

11. actually, "3" replaces the letter "E" in l33tspeak
... otherwise, your explanation is right, it comes from geeksters becoming a bit too anxious while pounding out their diatribes.

19. It goes way back to segmented numerical LCD displays ...
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 03:48 PM by TahitiNut
... and programmers doing their best to use such displays (on microcomputers in their infancy) to communicate error messages. Since then, it went from the professional to the prosumer/hobbyist to the hacker to the script-kiddies to the adolescents. So, just because it's seen in texting doesn't mean it started there. It's just pretentiously sub-cultural ... used by folks who think anything old that they find our about is something they invented. (Remember, every infant goes through the phase of thinking they're 'discovering' thngs for the first time.)

17. It means that you beat someone really badly in a game or argument
People refer to beating someone as "owning them". This is shortened to "owned". This is changed in leetspeak to "pwnd" "pwned" or "pwn3d".

21. lol
It's cause the p and o keys are so close, when chatting especially in an online FPS game, pwned is a common mis-spelling of owned. It's actually morphed into the preferred apelling in some circles.

23. Urban dictionary: pwned >>>>
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.

"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."
