MONDAY FILIBUSTER GAMEPLAN: URGE ABSTINENCE! FAST FAX/email w/ one click!
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:56 PM by Wordie
URGE THESE SENATORS TO EITHER SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTER
OR ABSTAIN FROM THE CLOTURE VOTE

(Great approach I found at a blog, Vichy Democrats)

Today, we need to focus on those key Senators. In addition to calling their offices, we're also going to target their re-election campaign HQs. (A great idea thought up by ...Bob Fertik!) Finally, we're going to hammer away at a simple, but politically powerful, message.

Our theme today is: Lead, Follow, Or Get Out of the Way. In political terms, that's:

EITHER SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTER
OR ABSTAIN FROM THE CLOTURE VOTE,
BUT DON'T GET IN OUR WAY.

IMPORTANT!!! At the bottom of this post I've provided a link to a fast, free FAX/email ALL the Senators on this list at ONCE! (Note that there are people with a variety of positions on this list. If you use the one click link, it is therefore important that your message be a simple and generic one (see below). Using the link at the bottom of the page means you don't need to take the time to write individual messages, but can write only ONE message, and click just once to send it to this entire LIST of Senators, all at once. Note also that you can send them both a FAX and an email through the link. But you can also call the Senators, using the contact info provided for each.

Nelson, Ben (V-NB) Nelson says he is voting FOR Alito. But that doesn't mean he can't show party loyalty by abstaining from the cloture vote. Hammer his office HARD with requests that, notwithstanding his intended floor vote, he STAY AWAY during the cloture vote this afternoon.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588
DC office direct line: 202-224-6551

Chadron office phone: 308-430-0587
Scottsbluff office phone: 308-631-7614
Campaign office phone: 202-546-8100

Johnson, Tim (V-SD) Johnson says he is voting FOR Alito. But that doesn't mean he can't show party loyalty by abstaining from the cloture vote. Hammer his office HARD with requests that, notwithstanding his intended floor vote, he STAY AWAY during the cloture vote this afternoon.

Aberdeen office phone: 605-226-3440
Rapid City office phone: 605-341-3990
Sioux Falls office phone: 605-332-8896

Byrd, Robert (V-WV) Byrd, formerly known as "The Conscience of the Senate", says he is voting FOR Alito. But that doesn't mean he can't show party loyalty by abstaining from the cloture vote. Hammer his office HARD with requests that, notwithstanding his intended floor vote, he STAY AWAY during the cloture vote this afternoon. Point out that by doing so, he will make a strong statement about Congress' power under the Constitution, and ensure his honorable legacy as the Constitution's defender.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588
DC office direct line: 202-224-3954
Charleston office phone: 304-342-5855
Campaign office phone: 202-546-9292

Chafee, Lincoln (R-RI) A Republican, usually moderate, so don't play the "Democratic activist" card. Latest news is that while he is a "no" vote on Alito, he still opposes the filibuster. Since a "yes" on cloture is the same as a "yes" on Alito, urge him to strongly consider abstaining from the filibuster vote instead.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588
DC office direct line: 202-224-2921
Providence office phone: 401-453-5294
Newport office phone: 401-845-0700

Conrad, Kent (D-ND) Anti-Alito but won’t support a filibuster. D’oh! Urge him to show party loyalty by abstaining from the filibuster vote.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588

Bismarck office phone: 701-258-4648
Fargo office phone: 701-232-8030

Pryor, Mark (D-AR) Anti-Alito but won’t support a filibuster. D’oh! Urge him to show party loyalty by abstaining from the filibuster vote.

DC office direct line: 202-224-2353
Little Rock office phone: 501-324-6336

Salazar, Ken (D-CO): Anti-Alito but won’t support a filibuster. D’oh! Urge him to show party loyalty by abstaining from the filibuster vote.

Fort Collins office phone: 970-224-2200
Pueblo office phone:719-542-7550

Landrieu, Mary (D- LA) Anti-Alito but won’t support a filibuster. D’oh! Urge her to show party loyalty by abstaining from the filibuster vote.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588
DC office direct line: 202-224-5824
New Orleans office phone: 504-589-2427
Baton Rouge office phone: 225-389-0395
Lake Charles office phone: 337-436-6650
Shreveport office phone: 318-676-3085

Nelson, Bill (D-FL) Anti-Alito but is nevertheless leaning against a filibuster, largely because he is getting a ton of calls from religious conservatives demanding an "upperdown" vote. Nelson has actually ASKED for more Democratic constituent calls as political cover. Urge him to show party loyalty, without sacrificing his political cover, by abstaining from the filibuster vote and visiting Walter Reed Army Hospital instead.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588

Akaka, Daniel (D-HI) Probably anti-Alito but leaning against the filibuster. Urge him to show party loyalty, withoug sacrificing his political cover, by abstaining from the filibuster vote and visiting Walter Reed Army Hospital instead.

Dorgan, Byron (D-ND) Probably anti-Alito but leaning against the filibuster. Urge him to show party loyalty, withoug sacrificing his political cover, by abstaining from the filibuster vote and visiting Walter Reed Army Hospital instead.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588

Fargo office phone: 701-239-5389
Minot office phone: 701-852-0703

Snowe, Olympia (R-ME) A moderate Republican, so don't mention being a Democratic activist. Is leaning against the filibuster. Urge her to allow the process to work itself out by abstaining from the filibuster vote.
Main Senate switchboard no.: 888-355-3588
DC office direct line: 202-224-5344
Auburn office phone: 207-786-2451

Menendez, Robert (D-NJ): Menendez is America’s newest Senator – appointed to fill a vacant seat just this month – and will be up for reelection in November. Let’s get him started on the right foot: as a warrior for justice, not as a triangulating polltaking Vichy. Hammer away!! Let him know what we need in order to support him in November, and that our support is indeed at stake! Tell him to either support the filibuster or to abstain, but NOT to vote for cloture.

COMPLETE LIST OF SENATORS TO FAX WITH JUST ONE MESSAGE:

IMPORTANT! Using this link means you don't need to take the time to write individual messages, but can write only ONE message, and click just once to send it to this entire LIST of Senators, all at once. If you are going to use this time-saving list to FAX/email ALL the Senators on this list, remember that the list includes people with a variety of positions on both the Alito vote and the filibuster itself. For that reason, if using this list, KEEP YOUR MESSAGE GENERIC! For instance, you can say something like this (copy this if you like): "I urge you to VOTE "NO" on confirmation to the Supreme Court of Judge Alito! I also urge you to SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTER of his nomination, OR ELSE, PLEASE ABSTAIN FROM THE CLOTURE VOTE!" (Feel free to copy this.)

Just use the radio buttons at the side of the list of Senators to select to which Senators you wish to send your message. You can select one Senator or all of them by using the check boxes to the left of their names. This site requires javascript, and will send your FAXes over the internet, no need to log off to send them. NOTE! You can also create more targeted messages INSTEAD, by creating your own list from the one provided. (See below) Note also that you can send them both a FAX and an email.

http://capwiz.com/thedeanpeople/mail/?id=10748&id=537&id=622&id=40039&id=453&id=31613&id=31624&id=273&id=10892&id=202&id=454&id=282&id=395

Ben Nelson (D-NB) 10748
Tim Johnson (D-SD) 537
Robert Byrd (D-WV) 622
Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) 40039
Kent Conrad (D-ND) 453
Mark Pryor (D-AR) 31613
Ken Salazar (D-CO) 31624
Mary Landrieu (D-LA) 273
Bill Nelson (D-FL) 10892
Daniel Akaka (D-HI) 202
Byron Dorgan (D-ND) 454
Olympia Snowe (R-ME) 282
Robert Menendez (D-NJ) 395

If you wish to send a targeted message, here are lists of the Senators, organized into rough categories. INSTEAD of the above list, you can use the radio buttons on the overall list to create your own groupings of Senators. Here are some suggestions for lists you can make:

Democratic Senators who will vote "NO" on Alito, but are undecided on the filibuster:
Kent Conrad
Mark Pryor
Ken Salazar
Mary Landrieu
Bill Nelson

Democratic Senators who will vote "YES" on Alito. Urge them to change their vote, but if they will not, to show Democratic party loyalty by being absent for the filibuster vote, instead of voting for cloture.
Ben Nelson
Tim Johnson
Robert Byrd

Democratic Senators who will PROBABLY vote "NO" on Alito, but are undecided on the filibuster. Urge them to vote "NO" on Alito, and ALSO to SUPPORT the filibuster. Tell them that even if they will not support the filibuster, that as Democrats, they need to show party loyalty by not showing up for the filibuster vote :
Daniel Akaka
Byron Dorgan

Republican Senators who are undecided on Alito. Encourage a "NO" vote on both Alito, and SUPPORT of the filibuster, or at the very least, and abstention from the cloture vote:
Lincoln Chafee
Olympia Snowe

The info on the Senator's positions and their contact info was obtained here:

As this will help save time for our harried DU activists, PLEASE K&R this thread! Thanks! -Wordie
