Likely Dem traitors on Cloture:

Pryor = WILL VOTE YES
Landrieu = REPORTS AT DU SAY YES
Dorgan = REPORTS SAY YES
Conrad = YES, AND YES ON ALITO
Johnson = YES, NO ON ALITO
Byrd = YES, YES ON ALITO
And of course...drumroll:

Lieberman - likely yes, no on Alito.

55 + 7 = 62 votes for YEA.

And of course,

NELSON of NE = 63. (YES AND YES)

People that are iffy:

Obama,
Biden

We'll see aboutt he latter two on the morning shows today. But even with them, we will still not have enough to stop the Republicans from having 60.

On the Republican side, people voting for cloture that we would want on our side:

- Chafee voting YEA
- Collins voting YEA

Even if Snowe flips, 62.

2. You're 99% likely to be right
but I can understand why some are keeping hope...Maybe, perhaps, that a few of those likely voting yes on shutting down the filibuster will abstain.

But it is looking very unlikely at this point.

4. Byrd surprises me the most.
What does he have to lose? This is a time for a Democrat to affirm his commitment to Democratic principles, so what's his excuse?

I just hadn't realized he was a DINO.

You all do realize that everyone else should be marked for replacement, right?

5. I was just listening to Randi Rhodes (repeat)
She was pointing out that the ~$80B(?) of federal funds needed to rebuild NOLA, is being used to strong-arm Mary Landrieu. If she rolls over, that would have to be a heartbreaking decision. But I doubt if any of the other Democrats would have that sort of excuse to go over to Alito. If any of them do so, NEVER FORGET and NEVER FORGIVE.

6. Why let logic stop you? This is DU ...
... some folks don't seem to let reality get in the way of their hysteria much at all ...

This whole Alito mess is just another example of how the mainstream party machinery of the Dems is BROKEN. They don't represent "the little people" anymore, they represent themselves. They want to stay in their cushy offices with their guaranteed pensions and lifetime health care just like the Puggies do ... the only difference is, occassionally they'll do something that makes us think they give a shit.

And now ain't one of those times because they - personally - have nothing at stake.

7. Traitors?
A lot of people here throwing that word around lately. It's a pretty fucking disgusting to see. These people may or may not chose to support a doomed political ploy, but either way they are NOT traitors and to call them that is childish.

Duers are starting to use the same rhetoric that the republicans use. Un-fucking believable.

9. I agree that they're not TRAITORS.
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 01:49 PM by pnorman
If that term has any meaning here, it should apply to Bush, Cheny, & Halliburton. But those "trimmers" who decline to join the ranks of those Democratic Party Stalwarts? NEVER FORGET, and NEVER FORGIVE.

And then there are those Democrats who actually LIKE Alito --- not just as a person, but for what he represents. A special place in DU Hell should be reserved for them. (My opinion only. But that DU is as Big Tent as it is, is why I value it so highly).

10. No, they're traitors. They need to stop Alito
If they don't stop Alito, they're fucking traitors. We need them the most now. If they fail us they have failed America.

14. Mary Landrieu needs to understand that she has nationwide support
Nationwide the Democrats are certainly ready to stand together with her, and the state of Louisiana.

Now if only she could stand together with us...
