There is NO WAY Rummy would be OUT if Dems DIDN'T WIN
So the BIG QUESTION is, WHY?

What is Bush gaining from having Rummy resign TODAY, months before the new Congress is in place.

This move has some reason and I don't like it.

2. Rummy has some 'splainin to do....
and he has treated the Democratic members of both houses like shit under his shoes for the past six years. He did not want to get hauled out in front of them under their terms.

3. He can STILL be subpoenaed. Resigning isn't going to stop that from happening.

5. If the Dems take over the senate..
Bush would have a hard time getting approval for who he wants in case something happened to Rumsfeld. I just think they want to get it done before they can't.

6. I don't think Congress has to approve cabinet members
Bush can select who he wants without Congressional approval for Sec. of Defense.

9. I don't think so
I think the selection must get approval from the senate.

7. my take. rummy said 'im out of here'
the ship is sinking and people are going to be going down and he doesnt want to deal with it.

if they thought it was politically expedient to get rid of him he would have been gone BEFORE the election.

10. Rumsfeld's directly linked to war crimes.
Specifically Abu Ghraib.

It's all going to show up during the investigations.

11. Confirmation of this Iran contra warhorse before January maybe?
I agree with you Bernie M...something is up with this because I would think this would have made way more tactical sense before the election.

The only thing that I can think of is that now bush 1 baker are calling the shots and are inserting their man in as sec of defense--I don't think he could be confirmed by a Dem senate (assuming it goes that way which I think it will eventually)

I cannot think of anything else!
