Those free fax services stick a cover page full of advertising onto the fax. Do you think that is going to engender Senate staffers to pay attention to the faxes?

3. I thought we were trying to ENCOURAGE DUers to contact senators.

And I thought we were trying to encourage even those folks who might object to the perceived expense of paying for faxes to join the effort, even if those folks are college students, seniors, and others on budgets. Would you prefer that they do nothing instead? Because that's the risk one runs by not providing as many communication options as possible.

I certainly don't see how an ad or two diminishes the effectiveness of a persuasive, compelling, and sincere letter. And neither does Jane Hamsher, or she wouldn't have recommended these services in her latest piece at Firedoglake. Indeed, I think that ad-supported media demonstrates to Senate offices that stopping Alito is a concern of a wide range of citizens all over the economic spectrum, and not just those of us who wouldn't blink twice at $100 worth of extra phone or Efax charges between now and Monday.
