Think Joementum will switch parties??
Or if Rummy wanders off into the night mumbling incoherently, they could offer Joementum the Sec Def and the repug governator of Connecticut would appoint Joe's replacement.

On the other hand, Joe may be savvy enough not to tie himself to a sinking ship??

4. It would be politically expedient to do so.
So yes.

He said he would still caucus with the democrats, and I'd imagine with the recent ground-swell of democratic support he'd want to be as closely associated with them as possible.

5. I don't know but I would bet he is receiving a great many offers
What would Republicans offer him to switch sides and give them back the majority?

6. The secretary of defense is a two-year gig
Where would he go in 2008 after bush leaves office? He wouldn't get a spot in the next democratic administration, I don't think, after taking our senate majority away by resigning.

As for switching to the republicans, I don't think he would win the next time he faced re-election after breaking a campaign promise to caucus with the Dems.

And who, after last night, would really want to tie themselves to the republicans anyway? I'm no fan of Joe, but his loss in the primary did wake him up to certain realities about the political environment.
