just voted in NYC...nice still lovely lever machines
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 03:46 PM by dogindia
where I voted since 84. Just had to sign my name below name signed in 84. The levers worked great. No lines at the polls though they said it was busy.
I don't doubt for a minute that my vote was counted. No paper trail but somehow the system has been in place for long enough. Probably could be tainted in some way but in New York City there is not much contention because so many are dems.

2. Upstate here
had the ancient lever machines too. Never any problems. Begs the question why the rest of the country supposedly needs these Deibold machines if NYC can handle the voter volume with the old machines. There are definitely shenanigans afoot.

3. Makes me feel guilty with all the problems others have
I went this am, the inspectors are my neighbors and have known me forever. Levers. Everyone is happy and chatty because we all know each other or their kids. It's a national shame that everyone can't have a good voting experience.

4. Same here old reliable levers...
...these things must be a hundred years old, but in all the
years that I have been voting I never had any doubt that my
vote was being counted properly.

5. Old RELIABLE lever voting machines working well in WNY..........
never a problem; sign name, in and out of voting booth quickly. Hopefully NYS will continue to use same into the future.

6. I love the old lever machines -
I started voting on them in New Jersey back in 1972 and never had a problem. It wasn't until I moved to Maryland in 1989 that I voted on an optical scan ballot. This year we had the touch screen voting machines for the first time. I just couldn't get over the fear that my vote won't count. Honestly, I think that a piece of paper and a pencil would make the best voting method.

7. I moved to NYC from Texas this year.
Never voted on one of those machines before and I have to say that it gave me a feeling of great satisfaction to pull that lever. God it felt good. My Dallas district always used paper ballots, and filling in circles with a pen is nice, but the machines have this gravitas to them that I really enjoyed.

The place was bustling, but I only had to wait for one person ahead of me.
