10. If I only knew how to do "layers" in Gimp

I would have put his fingers in front of the bottle. That would have worked better.

13. Set the main image as the background image...add bottle as next layer,

then the fingers as the next layer, etc...The layer dialogue should open when you load the base image, if not use the layers dialogue.

14. How do I make selected fingers a new layer?

I don't know how to do that.

17. You have to "cut" them out of the original pic and make a new pic

of just fingers. I would try the "magic wand" selection tool first since the fingers were on a solid color. If that does not work you might try the free hand "lasso" selection tool. You could also just copy the hand area, blow it up, set the background color to transparent, and erase everything except the fingers.

At the end of the day, you need a pic of just fingers to position on the third layer in front of the bottle.

The feathering on the bottle image looks bad in the original image.
