Fox Response To Rush: “What is crueler? To not have hope or to have hope?”
Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 12:50 PM by kpete
Fox Responds To Limbaugh Claim That He’s ‘Cruel’ For Creating ‘False Hopes’ About Stem Cells
Last week, Rush Limbaugh called Michael J. Fox “cruel” for giving people “false hope” that stem cell research will lead to medical breakthroughs:

Rush: When you start telling them there’s a cure around the corner if only somebody gets elected, you are misleading them. You are creating a false hope scenario and that is cruel.

Today on ABC, Fox responded, “What is crueler? To not have hope or to have hope?”
He pointed out that “it’s not false hope, it’s a very informed hope. I mean, it’s hope that’s informed by the opinion of our leading scientists, almost to the point of unanimity” that embryonic stem cell research offers tremendous potential for treating and and even curing a wide range of diseases and injuries.

1.  WANT TO SEND RUSH FLOWERS!
This has given the Parkinson's community so much play and Fox couldn't be a more articulate spokesman... his quotes re "hiding from disease" hit sooo close to home... every Parkinson's pt attempts to hide symptoms everyday... for business and vocational reasons, insurance, trying not to appear drunk..

THANK YOU RUSH AND MOST OF ALL....THANK YOU MICHAEL!!!!

3. Understand the sentiment...
but I'd have a hard time not requesting "EXTRA THORNS" on those roses!

2. I think Fox's comments re: the futility of arguing with a bully
will resonate as well--that one will never convince them of anything and just come out of it with a bloody nose (paraphrased). Is there anyone who has NOT experienced the bully personality at some point?... Even some dittoheads must recognize the signs there, even if they choose to ignore it.

4. MJ Fox is SUCH an effective advocate. His view will prevail

in the long run, now that the cleansing (of the fundie/RW era) process has begun. Limbaugh to me is just the current George Wallace or O. Faubus in this area; history will put him in his lowly, obstructionist place.

8. As someone who had cancer, I can answer that emphatically . ..
it's far crueler not to offer hope.

Plus, Rush doesn't even know what he's talking about.
