Saddam verdict could be delayed a few days- Reuters
http://uruknet.biz/?p=m27824&hd=0&size=1&l=e

"BAGHDAD, Oct 29 (Reuters) - A court trying Saddam Hussein for the killing of Shi'ites in the 1980s could delay delivering a verdict, due next Sunday, for a few days to give judges more time to review testimonies, the chief prosecutor said on Sunday.

Jaafar al-Moussawi said the U.S.-backed Iraqi High Tribunal was still working on the judgement, which could send the ousted leader to the gallows if he is found guilty of crimes against humanity over his role in the killing of 148 villagers.

"We will know a day or two before the trial if they are ready to announce the verdict," he told Reuters.

Delaying the sentence, which was originally due for Nov. 5, could be a disappointment for U.S. President George W. Bush and his Republican Party.

Polls suggest Republicans could lose control of Congress in elections on Nov. 7 and a guilty verdict against Saddam could be used by Bush and his allies as a vindication of their policy to overthrow him."

1. They know violence will rip Iraq and postponed the verdict.

It will benefit Bush the most to have the verdict come down no sooner than 24 hours before the election.

7. Thats why it is being postponed so they can pump the news about the verdict and
the bad news about the violence won't hit until the election is leading the news

10. Further evidence that the situation is out of control - Bush's control
And no American President is ever supposed to be out of control.

2. Or they are thinking the evidence
is insubstantial to give him the death penalty, and it is another Bush failure.

Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 01:36 PM by BlueStater
This was clearly set-up to give the asshole some sort of an advantage before the election. Looks like the judges aren't going to bow to the fucker's whims.

He's a huge disgrace on every possible level.

5. "Could" delay may mean it still comes out Tues a.m. or sooner.
This is too close to the US elections to be comfortable. Seems like a peculiar coincidence.

6. Kim Jong Il has killed far more of his own people
and already has an atomic bomb.

He-man Dubya's solution-- Ask his neighbors to talk to him about it.

There you go, the counter frame.

8. The whole thing is a joke anyway!
This "trial" has been nothing more than a PR play from the beginning anyway. It's bullshit. Nobody would ever find him not guilty and if they did, (which they won't), he wouldn't be released anyway.

9. Hussein lawyer to Bush: Conviction will worsen Iraq strife
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/10/29/iraq.hussein.letter/index.html

"The chief lawyer for Saddam Hussein warned U.S. President George W. Bush in a letter that if his client is found guilty in the Dujail trial, there will be more strife in Iraq and the region.

Attorney Khalil al-Dulaimi pressed for the release of Hussein and his seven co-defendants, who are expected to face a verdict November 5, two days before the U.S. midterm elections.

The lawyer accuses Bush of strategically arranging the verdict to be announced before the balloting.

Hussein and the other defendants are accused of crimes against humanity for a bloody crackdown against Shiite Muslims in Dujail after a 1982 assassination attempt against Hussein in that town, north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. The defendants face possible execution if found guilty.

The letter from al-Dulaimi, dated Saturday, was e-mailed to CNN's Baghdad bureau. Al-Dulaimi told CNN it was sent to the U.S. leader through the American Embassy in Amman, Jordan."

12. Hope they use the time to review evidence and indict Smirko & Poppy.
Smirko's killed more innocent Iraqis than Saddam.

Poppy did business with Saddam that made it possible for Saddam to wage war on Iran.

That led to the deaths of more than a million people.

We haven't seen genocide like that since the time of Hitler.
