An answer to a freeper question...
I have been arguing with this guy for more than ten years on and off and I thought I would share with you and answer I gave to the question of the "common Good"

He asks;
Why not explain it to me then. I believe it's simply a slick slogan whipped up to hide the Left's (and your) real agenda . . .

My answer;

You are paranoid I have no hidden agenda nor does the vast majority of the left. And it is there weakness because they do not plan for anything and don’t do well with manipulations necessary to have some hidden agenda.
We are not communist or socialist nor do we want any sort of dictatorship from anyone. We want more individual freedom not less, but we also want the laws to protect the individual from the tyranny of power. And that is the real freedom that the founders wanted.

We want a new economy not an old one driven by the old industries of coal, oil, and transportation invented in the early 1900s.
Many of us think way ahead of you and can foresee a time in the future that anyone could travel in complete safety on mass transit to any point on the continent quicker than by aircraft and only a very few needed a car. But those that did have one would emit 0 pollution from there operation.

We want every one to be happy and employed in a job that they can be proud of and supplies them with at least the basics of life and allows them freedom and liberty.
We want (or at least I do ) the proponents of all “isms” to STFU whether it is left or right, and lets get on whit the business of change, which you must know by now must come if we are to survive on this earth.

2. The right has a hidden agenda and therefore assume the left does as well
They think is is all black and white and the left has this vast agenda to turn America into a socialist state.

Remember these are people who can not think on their own.

3. Common good has been around for longer than "the liberal agenda"
Massachusetts has been refered to as a "Commonwealth" since it's founding. Anyone who can't believe or understand in a common good to a society would be better off in a facist state. But those states usually end up destroyed when the people rise against the government so he will have to kepp moving around.

6. And a lot longer than Massachusetts, too.
It's a translation of the ancient Greek "koinon" IIRC.
