It's time to send the congressman home
From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the major daily paper in the Milwaukee area:

Two years ago, we recommended Jim Sensenbrenner for another term representing Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District. Today, we simply cannot. Sensenbrenner has been wrong on too much, from an immigration policy that puts him at odds with much of his own party and the business community to failure to exert meaningful oversight over White House domestic spying policies.

We recommend his opponent, Democrat Bryan Kennedy. He will be a competent, thoughtful congressman who can restore a sense of dignity and balance to the 5th District. It's time for that after years of folly from Sensenbrenner.

Sensenbrenner has too often been an obstructionist to good policy. Given the reins of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, he had a chance to lead for the common good during a congressional session when few representatives had even a notion of what that meant. Too often, he didn't.

Sensenbrenner was wrong on immigration...
Sensenbrenner was wrong on the USA Patriot Act...
Sensenbrenner was wrong on Real ID...
Sensenbrenner was wrong not to dig deeper into the National Security Agency's domestic spying program...
Sensenbrenner was wrong to waste taxpayers' money by taking more than $160,000 in junkets since 1994, not to mention the more than $200,000 in world travel paid for by lobbyists and think tanks over the past six years...

Bryan Kennedy hasn't been getting much credibility or any cash from the Democratic Party because the popular myth is that "Sensenbrenner is just too strong." This endorsement is another indication that the conventional wisdom is changing. The Journal-Sentinel is not a liberal paper by any means. But even they have had enough of this arrogant, authoritarian, rubberstamp buffoon.

However, just getting the Journal's endorsement doesn't win the election. Bryan needs some help right now in the waning days of the campaign to get his message out. Volunteers are working every day doing lit drops and phoning, but some media exposure is also needed. Please, please, if you can spare anything at all, contribute at the site below. I know it seems like hundreds of campaigns are all asking for money to put them over the top. But imagine how sick Sensenbrenner will feel when he first realizes that he won't be a big shot in Congress anymore. Wouldn't it be great to have a little piece of making that happen?

3. Done - I've been meaning to send him a contribution
Sensenbrenner burns me. Maybe now the Party will pay attention and help Kennedy in this last week!

8. It was Sensenbrenner who shut the lights on the Patriot Act hearing
And that's when I sent him an email telling him that I couldn't wait to support his Dem opponent in this race. And that I was in Colorado. Hee!

6. Thats a great idea. I feel foolish asking this but what amount
of a contribution is acceptable? Can we have someone match this like Feingold, or Kohl?

7. I sent what I could afford
I don't know about matching funds. But every dollar helps him get his word out.

9. Yes, whatever a person can afford
Everything is gratefully accepted. The party has given Bryan almost no help, so we ordinary people have to do it ourselves.
