10. Face it, you spelled something wrong.
I've NEVER seen Google do this without a misspelling or typo as the root cause. Even a misplaced apostrophe can do it. I think if you were able to go back and look you'd see that it was something very simple.

11. It only bothers me when I'm trying to find the correct spelling of a word.
...and it gives me "Did you mean..." an entirely different word. :banghead:

7. Often it's a spelling ambiguity.
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 07:50 PM by TahitiNut
Google is not a spelling checker. It does, however, cache various search terms and will suggest a more frequently used search term that's similar to one you've used. You can play with it yourself using the various (mis)spellings of "abu Ghraib" and see what you get. The fact of the matter is that the web has tons of misspellings ... and it's NOT inconceivable that you're looking for a site that misspells some word.

In the example I suggested, you'll get nearly 30,000 hits looking for "abu Grahib" while "abu Ghraib" gets more than 5,300,000 hits.

9. Whenever Google asks me that,
I've misspelled something. Unless your Google is the new, Monty Hall Google, which always asks if what you asked for is really what you want, or maybe you want what's behind Door Number 3.
