WERE THESE PEOPLE EXPLOITING THEIR DISEASES OR DISORDERS? (dial up warning)
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 07:40 AM by berni_mccoy
Christopher Reeve lobbied for stem-cell research

Stephen Hawking lobbies for stem-cell research and has asked the EU not to follow Bush's lead

During her visit to Washington to advocate for Rett Syndrome research, Julia Roberts meets with Congressman Langevin

Nancy Reagan advocates for stem cell research in order to cure Alzheimer's

LET ME ASK YOU THIS: If stem cell research is about not giving any moral ground to cure TENS OF MILLIONS of AMERICANS and BILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORLD WIDE, why is it ok to CONDONE TORTURE TO KEEP US SAFE? You can't have it both way people.

7. A few words for ANY thug pundit who says Fox exploiting his illness:
No, the exploiting was done by the Right Wing with Terri Schiavo, who was in no condition to prevent them from using her!

Just more GOP projecting of their bad behavior on other people.

11. Bush abuses that power also, he is just a puppet for Cheney and
Rummy and Rove, * does not care about protecting the people (which isn't his job anyway, protecting the Constitution was) apparently he feels "privileged" and he believes that God gave these people these riches and for those who do not have his attitude is well too bad, you just don't rate. Thus being against stem cell, and I do not think these people are "using" their handicaps they just want a cure, and do not want anyone else go through what they go through.

9. Regan, Hawking had no choice in their illness
I have always been against Reeves when it comes to spinal cord injuries. He was a person that knew the risks and took them anyway. After he got himself hurt he expected the little people to pay more taxes to fix his problem.

12. Who cares about any of that? Who cares who lived dangerously or not?
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:06 AM by w4rma
The fact is that they all worked for something that would help people. I could really care less about why they were trying to help people. And I could care even less than that about who should be blamed for their health problems.

13. You can not blame people for getting injured
It happens all the time in many different ways to many different people. Christopher Reeves advocated for everyone, not just himself.

You assume a certain level of risk when you get in a car. If you became paralyzed because you were in a car accident, are you saying you would not advocate for a cure because you knew the risks getting into that car?

16. There is a world of difference between getting into a car
a necessary evil, and jumping obstacles with $100,000 horses than expect someone like me that makes $40,000 a year to pay more taxes to fix him if injury incurs. Some joe six pack driving home after working 12 hours to support his family and being paralyzed after being hit by a drunk driver would make a much better spokesman.

15. Totally off-point, but what a great pic of Julia Roberts.
She's done some great humanitarian work. Seems pretty authentic for a hollywood type.
