Email Today Show!!!! Please!
today@nbc.com <today@nbc.com>

my husband struggles valiantly with Parkinson's and am more than sickened but devastated that NBC would sink to Fox News level re Matt Lauer's comment Michael J. Fox needs to be held accountable. The ignorance of the disease is beyond me... pray tell these media types have ever seen Parkinson's patients OFF their meds.

I am appalled at the spinning and right-wing framing of this discussion. “Shouldn’t Fox be held up for ridicule?” asks Matt Lauer when did journalism real journalism involve the option of ridicule. The Today Show needs to get back to objectively reporting important and relevant stories. It would seem that they have lost their way and spend time on insignificant and redundant stories, e.g. germs, Madonna, etc. Not only have they lost their way they have lost this individual as a viewer. Good Luck General Electric.

17. Ridiculous.
A man pleads for America to consider how their vote will affect an issue like stem cell research which could, possibly, lead to a cure for a disease which is killing him slowly, and the media demands he be held accountable.

I don't think it's just our political system which needs an enema. It looks like our media may be overdue as well.

24. a big KICK and lots of love to you and your family medeak
what we have is our strong voices of love and deep caring for one another
that will always triumph no matter the platform the hard right wants to use as their mouthpieces
the days we feel weak we have another person on our side to pick up the "slack"

please know how much we love you and are fighting that good fight right along with you
they will NOT win so long as we all keep talking and pulling together each to their own ability

and do let us know how you are feeling later
it matters a great deal to us that you and your family do not feel the brunt of people who would rather curry the power of destruction rather than the power of justice

I suggested that the producers didn't do their homework if Matt wasn't aware the Fox did a very powerful commercial 2 years ago for Republican Senator Arlen Specter.

-------
I worked for Specter's opponent during that campaign, and was devestated when I saw Fox supporting Specter, who is a huge propronent of stem cell research due in part to his own medical history. I think the commercial helped a lot with moderate voters in both parties. It sucked, but I respect Fox -- it's all about stem cells, people, not the partisan politics.

19. No, they won't bother.
I really hate these threads that get all excited about something but don't bother to actually let anyone in on the secret who wasn't there when the big "something" happened.

It's a form of self-absorption, to assume that everyone else is looking at or listening to whatever you are looking at or listening to.

but I will paraphrase

"Rush Limbaugh was just saying what was on everyone's mind. Shouldn't we hold M.J. Fox accountable for exploiting his illness for a partisan ad?"

Basically, Lauer is joining with Limbaugh and Mehlman to kick the guy with Parkinson's in the teeth because Fox's desire to cure himself hurts Republicans. Nice journalism eh?

47. What he said and I sent a letter
I found this a RW blog:
http://newsbusters.org/node/8609

Take it for what it's worth.

After reading it I sent this letter to the Today show:

There seems to be a buzz on the Internet about the comments Matt Lauer made yesterday concerning the growing controversy over the reactionary comments made by Rush Limbaugh to the campaign ads Michael J. Fox appears in for proponents of stem cell research.

Matt Lauer has a lot of nerve to sit there and say that what most people are privately thinking is that Fox was exaggerating his illness for political gain. He doesn't speak for most Americans. Who he speaks for are callous, hard bitten individuals without soul or conscience.

I stopped watching the Today show weeks ago. I am so grateful now that I did.

And, from the buzz that I've read, it looks like you'll be losing more viewers.

And for that, Matt Lauer should be held accountable.

32. OK, here's mine:
Hold Michael J Fox accountable? Matt Lauer is so brave!

Silly me, I thought that when it comes to accountability, the media was supposed to look at the powerful, the elected officials - and , well , the wrongdoers.
Not Matg Lauer though. He's rather pummel the sick and the powerless for their efforts of making their plight count in the big money ran elections. How dare he?
So, reading of the same memo as Rush Limbaugh , Sean Hanity and Anne Coulter, Lauer, NBC chose to demonstrate to us how antiquated the term "main stream media" has become. Shame on you.
My father died of Parkinson - I guess you guys can't hold HIM accountable anymore. Lucky guy, huh?

33. Regarding Matt Lauer's comcomments on Michael J. Fox... Done, K&R
My comments:

Disgusting! As a person of words I find myself wordless to describe my level of disgust with Matt Lauer and NBC over the comments made regarding Michael J. Fox. In my opinion it is Matt Lauer that needs to be held accountable not only for his comments but for his apparent ignorance concerning the disease. Is this the age we live in where representatives of institutions like NBC can feel free to spew rubbish of this nature into America's living rooms? I guess we now need to categorize NBC with the likes of Rush Limbaugh and the FOX News personalities... God forbid that Mr. Lauer will ever need to deal with the level of devastation that comes with a disease of this magnitude. Disgusting!

Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 10:23 PM by ckimmy57
and after that little escapade I agree. My mother also suffered from Parkinson's and I pray every day that a cure will be found but as long as the asshole repukes stay in office there is no chance for the stem cell research that is so needed. It's amazing that the repukes are against this great research UNTIL a disease effects them or their loved ones such as Nancy Reagan when alzheimers touched their lives. All of a sudden she came out FOR stem cell research.....amazing what fear does to a soul. Stay strong, our prayers are with you and your family.:grouphug:
