White House again times Iraq policy to U.S. elections; CBS' Couric and...
...Axelrod show little interest, despite surge of troop deaths little interest, despite surge of troop deaths

'Summary: CBS' Jim Axelrod reported that a White House official told him, "o not expect to see anything significant prior to Election Day" "as far as a significant change" in the Bush administration's Iraq policy and then quoted the official as saying: "You're not going to see anything before November 8th. It would be political suicide, and Karl Rove would never allow it." Axelrod and anchor Katie Couric failed to point out that, as of October 25, the death toll for U.S. soldiers in Iraq stood at 91 for the month, which sets a pace that would make October the deadliest month for U.S. troops in two years.

On the October 24 broadcast of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, CBS News White House correspondent Jim Axelrod reported that a White House official told him, "o not expect to see anything significant prior to Election Day" "as far as a significant change" in the Bush administration's Iraq policy and then quoted the official as saying: "You're not going to see anything before November 8th. It would be political suicide, and Karl Rove would never allow it."... http://mediamatters.org/items/200610250011

1. Everything is measured in politics to them.
Not, 'how many people are we losing in Iraq and Afghanistan today', not, 'what is the budget deficit up to now'...........nope, it's all politics to them, "how can we spin this for optimal political advantage". What would the parents of a slain soldier think knowing that is all "just politics" to BushCo?
Everything is measured in political gain or loss to them. It's all that matters. Well, I hope that they can measure their political loss this November, that the American people FINALLY awake from their fear induced coma and show them what political loss REALLY is!

As for Couric and Axelrod........... :puke: Fewer and fewer people watch them each night. Pretty soon they'll be a nothing more than a footnote in CBS's storied history.

3. same thing with today's signing ceremony
about the fence building at the Mexican border...

radio news story this morning: bush will be having a signing ceremony to build a fence...

bush doesn't like the bill, and has been sitting on it (pocket veto?), and really didn't want to make a photo op out of it if he did decide to sign it - HOWEVER - HASTERT and other GOPers wanted a big to-do

so they drag out a table, GOPers crowed around, bush takes out his BIC Crayon and signs the bill. Photos taken of hand-shaking and mutual back slapping. Off camera - bush issues a signing statement nullifying the bill.

5. I'm sure that's a great comfort to the soldiers in Iraq
I mean, sure they're posted in a hell-hole surviving day to day with no prospect for relief. This month's Tony Snow Number is approaching 100. And back home, the elected officials who put you there are talking about a grand plan for fixing things. But they can't and won't do anything about it because it would hurt their political chances. So could all of you military folks, you know, try not getting killed quite so often for the next couple of weeks? It's very inconvenient for GOP poll numbers.
