Where to Give $$$ to Dems...Barron's Cover Story This Week
Barron's cover story this week predicts that the GOP will prevail, based on Barron's district-by-district analysis of the fundraising imbalances:

http://online.barrons.com/public/article/SB116138396438799484-sRO9kW9F5htFFFIAHT9NoQyV5PQ_20061123.html?mod=9_0002_b_free_features

As you consider where to target your giving in the home stretch, this might be one way to prioritize your donations. After all, there's no law against using the data from a pro-corporate publication against BushCo.

2. The Methodology They Used...
... is interesting. I wonder how much the sheer virulence of anti-incumbent fervor will tilt the scales this go-around? In other words, a $$$ imbalance may not matter as much this year as in previous years.

Still, you can have the best message in the world, and no money for a megaphone ... so, it may not be a bad idea for the DNC (and DUers) to analyze this data, to see where closing the gaps could help seal the deal.

It's pretty silly to think that the better candidate always wins...

If you read the article you can see many of the better funded GOPU candidates are going on to lose...

The argument can be summed up as thus:

The better funded candidate always wins until he doesn't...

6. Ripping a page out of the GOPlaybook...
... nice, but Dems send drum circles, not $$$.

; )

Just kidding, of course. But the gap in giving has to have some explanation more sophisticated than, "Republicans are rich from tax cuts, and can afford to give."

Our ancestors weren't particularly wealthy, for the most part, but they managed to somehow field an army that prevailed in the Revolutionary War.

Plus, George Washington wasn't the least bit shy about using captured cannon - the opposing side's playbook and materials - against them:

7. LOL
"Dems send drum circles, not $$$"

Yeah, and a tofu roast just doesn't seem to have people opening up their checkbooks the same way that a "good ol' American BBQ" does. Lee Atwater understood that better than just about anyone.

This is one of the things that leaves me shaking my head in utter bewilderment sometimes. So many of my Democratic friends act as if giving money to the political process somehow cheapens their allegiance to the party or to the message. "I volunteer time," or "I volunteer sweat equity," is a common refrain. That's admirable. It's noble. But - in many tight House races, where expensive media time is key to reaching the most voters - it's not nearly enough.

Faced with the superior might of the Roman legions, the "barbarian tribes" adapted over time, learned how to counteract the Roman tactics, and eventually brought about the fall of the Roman Empire. Ditto for the American rebels, faced with the overwhelming might of the British regulars and hired mercenaries.

And the Founders put their money where their mouths were (they didn't think this cheapened their allegiance; rather, it deepened it): "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of the divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."

If the Founders mutually pledged their Fortunes to their cause, why are so many Dems reluctant to follow in the footsteps of a proven plan? I honestly don't get that.
