::BALLOONS FOR PEACE: ACTION ALERT Add YOUR name! >>
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 05:01 PM by helderheid

Hello,

Marshall is more than halfway through the state of Utah! He is doing well and is grateful for all the support he has received so far.

:: CHANGES IN THE ITINERARY:
Unfortunately, since Marshall started planning this walk, the U.S. casualty ratehas risen to over 2,700 in Iraq. Actually, today they hit 2,800. So,he will add one day of walking in Utah, and one day of walking and meeting withpeople in Washington D.C. Please check the JoinIn section of the websitefor the RECENT changes to his itinerary. He will walk through St. George andfinish at the Arizona border on November 1st. We really want a big crowdin St. George on the last day. If you can make it, please come! Ifyou can’t be there, you can still be represented with our balloons forpeace campaign.

::BALLOONS FOR PEACE:
You can be there in spirit. We want to show Utah how many peoplesupport peace in Iraq. If you send us your name and the city, state, or countrythat you’re from, we will make sure there is a balloon on the last dayof Marshall’s walk to represent you. Those who walk through St. Georgeon November 1st will carry the white balloons. This will help illustratethe support for a responsible withdrawal from Iraq. The balloons will not bereleased into the air for environmental reasons.
E-mail your name and the city, state, and country that you’re from to balloons@soldierspeace.com

http://www.soldierspeace.com/balloonsforpeace.htm

Those of you who have already expressed your support or your desire to walk withMarshall should still e-mail us sowe can make sure there is a balloon to represent you. Right now, thereare less than 50 balloons reserved. We wouldlike the number to exceed a minimum of 500.

:: HOW TO HELP:
We are still trying to raise enough money to cover the costs of this walk andthe balloons for peace effort. If you are able, please visit the DONATEsection of the website.

Another way to help is to spread the word. E-mail your friends and familyabout the walk and the balloonsfor peace campaign. Contact your localand national media and let them know what is happening in Utah. We wanteveryone to know about A Soldier’s Peace and about the support Marshallhas encountered for a responsible troop withdrawal throughout his walk.

Finally, for those of you who plan to be in St. George on November 1st, we coulduse your help. Before the walk begins, we will need people to help withballoons and with the Eyes WideOpen Exhibit. If you can help, please e-mailus at info@soldierspeace.com

We really appreciate the support we have received so far and we hope to see youin St. George.

Sincerely,
Kristen Thompson

17. latest journal entry
Don't know how many of you are following Marshall Thompson's walk down the state of Utah? Below is an excerpt from his note, enroute, from Panguitch, yesterday.

I am at a conference in Flagstaff, Arizona tonight and will return to Heber on Thursday - - will look forward to being in closer contant and get final details of our walk on Saturday worked out.

See you soon,

Chuck

"In my hotel room, the only news station I could get was Fox. I
caught the Bill O'Reilly interview with President Bush. O'Reilly was
smarmy, but Bush was still defensive. My favorite part was when he
accidentally admitted that we invaded Iraq to stop the "Islamofascists" from
starting a caliphate across the Middle East to control the oil. It makes so
much more sense now.

Still, I couldn't help but notice that Bush is increasingly lonesome in his
"stay the course" alternate reality. News of the possible blueprints for
withdrawal even made it on Fox. Later that night, a panel of Senators
Lugar, Warner, Biden and Leven discussed the need for a plan for a
responsible withdrawal from Iraq. The soldiers are saying it. The American
people are saying it. And now even Congress has rubbed the sleepy dust out
of its eyes and begun to murmur. It's the most hopeful thing I've seen in a
long time. This war can end. It can end soon. It can end well. Bush can
even claim that he's staying the course as we begin to withdraw. Things are
looking good, even from Panguitch, Utah."

21. Don't balloons murder the wildlife?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I was told those floating balloons eventually land and wildlife eats the balloon and is harmed or gets tangled up in the strings and is harmed.

Likewise throwing rice at weddings - supposedly the birds eat it and it swells up and chokes them. They recommend tossing bird seed instead.

I'm just saying.............
