3. yeah, and I saw Hunter go nuts on the issue, too
But, I still think that broad dissemination would serve our nation best.

Seeing how bad things are would wake people up.

4. I don't think it is an act of treason,
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 09:06 AM by originalpckelly
but it was in bad taste. I really don't think the American people can be swayed by propaganda from an insurgent group. And all these politicians show their lack of confidence in the people of our nation. So I don't oppose running it because of that.

I do believe that is tasteless, because it shows the hunting of American soldiers like animals.

And people should be wondering, why CNN has such connections with insurgent groups in Iraq?

I see the comparison to al-Jazeera, in some ways obviously wrong, but in the sense that CNN would have once removed connections to the insurgents does surprise me.

6. There is plenty of footage on YouTube showing the hunting of Iraqis
"like animals". Not sure what the difference is.

5. For me the truly disturbing thing
is that some many Red-Blooded patriots cheer sending men into harms way (to be mangaled and blown apart by IEDs made from 155mm arty shells reinforced with PE-4 or hit by 7.62x54mm Dragunov Sniper Rifle rounds) and then don't want to hear about it!

They like there wars without all the blood and guts...

7. So why do the Freeps love the beheading videos and not this?
We've seen how they froth at the mouth, demanding that CNN show those pieces of video 24/7

8. So Doing Their Job, Reporting The News, Is Treason
We all know why they are so upset. It clearly depicts the truth of the no win situation we are in.

I keep hearing these military types talk about how the best defence is a counter-sniper team.

Ok, great.

Now explain to me how you accomplish that in a crowded city with civilian traffic everywhere. It is apparent from the film the insurgents are using the same techniques as the DC sniper. US patrol sets up checkpoint in busy area. Scout calls in sniper team. Sniper team drives up, using traffic in area for cover. Takes a shot from the car and drives off before a counter team could probably even set up.

And lets talk about the counter teams. A sniper and spotter. Would they not have to set up where they would not be seen, away from support, thus making them vulnerable to attack/abduction in a crowded and hostile populace.

No. This video is only a graphic example of the old adage, "The enemy always gets a vote".

Which is why a nation should not fight wars of choice.

9. This film will be taken down by You Tube
No violence is allowed there. I refuse to watch the video. Check out my thread about regular Iraqi college kids who were killed by a roadside bomb when they went out for ice cream. That's all anyone needs to see to understand that war is hell:

10. the video isn't "violent" in the "messy" sense
you hardly see people fall. Only the sound of a shot, then a short black screen.

It fails me to understand how it's OK to see very realistic scenes of US soldiers being killed like in "Saving Private Ryan" and not this video, not to talk about other historical movies 5Iwo Jima, Vietnam etc..).

But I think that I have the answer : the violence is in the fact that the US is LOSING the war, unlike in many Hollywood movies or even documentaries.

And that is too much for certain people to cope with.
