Dutch army should take prostitutes abroad - mayor
Maybe the US should adopt such a policy. I bet it would help sagging enlistment numbers.

Dutch army should take prostitutes abroad - mayor

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A Dutch mayor has raised eyebrows by backing the idea of sending prostitutes to accompany Dutch troops on foreign missions.

"The army must consider ways its soldiers can let off steam," Annemarie Jorritsma, mayor of the town of Almere in central Netherlands and a member of the ruling VVD liberals, told Dutch television.

"There was once the suggestion that a few prostitutes should accompany troops on missions. I think that is something we should talk about," she said, adding that the prostitutes would keep soldiers from turning to local women.

6. Wasn't (Civil War) General Hooker notorious for this?
Isn't that how "hooker" became eponymous for prostitute? (I know - it's a common myth - but an interesting one, nonetheless).

7. Tell me how many wives "restrained themselves" during the Viet Nam war.

:eyes: The marital "casualty rate" in my unit was well above 50% ... based on the "Dear John" letters that were posted on the backside of our Company bulletin board and general knowledge.

9. I certainly can't speak for any other wives or those from the Viet Nam
war, but I managed to restrain myself for a year and 3 months while my husband was in Iraq.

I can honestly tell you that it would have really bothered me as the wife of a soldier in Iraq if they had sent prostitutes with my husband's unit.

3. No need to
If I know anything about Americans and wars they aways have tons of prostitutes available in whatever country they are invading. I know its happening in iraq they just don't talk about it because to the strong muslim presence.

10. Those Dutch soldiers have to "let off steam".
I've never seen it put that way. Oh well, they come equipped with vent pipes, so why not?

11. And what woman is going to willingly go to a war-zone.
What are they going to do, force them? They act as if these women are nothing more than commodities to be used at will.
