If you haven't seen it yet, watch how Howard Dean deals with Katie Couric in this Today Show interview.

:loveya:

but I am willing to share him with the world. :patriot:

He's the best thing to happen to this country since Thomas Paine, and at just the time he's needed most.

3. I agree, but...
I still don't think he's the best choice for President. I love him as a spokesman, and I love how he deals with hack's like Couric, but I don't think he's our best choice for 2008. I could be wrong though.

7. He'd be great at it
Compare him to who we've put up in the past--Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry--all good, smart, earnest, caring men, but not strong enough for the fight. Dean just blows them off the map. My dream ticket would be Dean/Clark but that will never happen because nothing that good will ever happen to me. :)

He said in 2005 if he got the chairman job he won't run in 2008. I think he's perfect as chairman quite frankly. :)

4. Katie did him a favor though...
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 09:45 AM by KSLeftyMom
She gave him a BIG opening and opportunity. I'm in the minority, I think Katie and Matt are better than most for going after both parties with loaded guns/questions. They seem to fawn over both parties politicians fairly equally, although I don't think Katie likes Michael Moore very much. He takes control of interviews and that flummoxes her. Dean ALMOST took complete control of this interview too, but did it in a way that was so graceful and intelligent that by the end Katie said the Today show would need to check their facts -- with a little glare to the side of the camera. LOL.

Even my five year old said... I love Howard Dean!

info they are given. They do seem to attempt to ask what they consider to be tough questions but I think they lean toward cutting the pukes some slack. However, don't you think that is what their writers are telling them to ask?

Anyhow, I hope Dean made those freaking writers want to look into the actual facts before they start accusing Dem's of taking Abromhoff money. Dean was fantastic in driving home that point.

Re: that little glare to the side of the camera. Was she scared because Dean was able to say what we all know is the real truth or was she taken aback and truly pissed off that she may not have the facts correct? We shall see how this all pans out I guess.
I wish Dean could be on television every day. He always seems to find a way to sneak the truth in there!:yourock:

34. Welcome to DU
:hi:

I doubt that Couric's statement that they'd have to clarify that for their viewers held any more content than Wolf's sigh when he couldn't get Dean to say what he wanted Dean to say. If you hear that she actually does that, please let us know. I'd love to hear that she corrected her misstatement of fact. :)

Sorry, but our top dog Dems need to do this whenever the Mediawhores start asking leading, biased questions that clearly are regurgitations of Rovian talking points.

"Katie, if you were an independant journalist you would know that...."

"Katie, why repeat GOP talking points when the facts say otherwise..."

He repeated the same points over and over, just like he should have; 'No Abramoff money was given to any Democrat', 'George Bush broke the law', 'Democrats want to fight Al Qaeda, but they want it done legally'.

Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 09:59 AM by blue2helix
I wanted to take those glasses of hers and shove them up her ass! What a condescending beyatcth! Could you possibly be more biased!!

Let's reinforce some RNC talking points for the viewers.

1 - Democrats soft on Terror
2 - Democrats spineless
3 - Abramoff is a Bi-partisan scandal
4 - Democrats don't want to spy on terrorists
5 - Bush breaking the law is no big deal ("mudslinging")

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18. The fact that he had to respond to false assertions is a repub win
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 10:21 AM by blue2helix
Think about it, what if somebody repeated ad nauseum (this issue was covered in DKos but I forgot who brought it up)to you in public, "How do you feel about those wife beating charges levied against you?."

At first you would just ignore it because it doesn't dignify a response. Then after more public questioning you would become alarmed and feel compelled to respond. Then they won!

The point is that Howard Dean shouldn't have to answer these false and loaded questions! They are misleading by their very existence! They place the issue in the voters mind despite the fact that they are false and non-existent.

That's why reportes should be held to such high standards. They can be used in the above mentioned fashion. Today they are fed propaganda and spin, before, they used to actually have to investigate and evaluate facts for themselves. Do you think Couric investigated anything? Went over those FEC reports on her own???

25. Glass half empty, half full thing.
I definitely get your support for Howard, and I also don't disagree with you. In fact, I completely agree with you.

However, I looked at that interview and saw a Kool-Aid drinker (Couric) brought down gracefully and forcefully with every loaded remark and question she lobbed at Dean.

Every slam-dunk Couric thought she was sure to land missed its mark by a wide margin, and gave Dean the opportunity to remind the country several times that Bush has broken the law.

The lesson here for me is that Howard Dean doesn't spend his time concentrating on how stacked the game is. He spends his time learning how to turn the game on its head, and that's a lesson well observed.

I liked his performance with Blitzer better, but that's just a quibble. IMHO, simply stating the facts over and over and over is the best approach.

30. That was incredible
The best interview I have seen a Democrat do in a long time. The media thrives on sound bites, so that is all he gave them. Kerry bores everyone to tears with Senatespeak. Dean has a steady, determined response for all questions. What does the Democratic party stand for? Here are five things. Boom. No rambling. Hammers home his points again and again.

Perfect.
