76. I'm dumbfounded by that.
It hasn't been on here yet. But what in the hell could have been more important to show change would be lightning fast?

She's going to do it. She's even got it broken down day by day.

She gets a free huge national audience and says nothing about it? What the hell is going on?

77. I watched that interview as more of an introduction to Pelosi.
They covered her family, background, and how she got where she is. She also got a few good digs in on the blivet, which never hurts. She was and is feisty!

84. I suppose, if pledging to be derelict in her duty is "feisty"
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 03:57 AM by pat_k
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has pledged not to pursue impeachment of President George W. Bush if Democrats win the November election.

"Impeachment is off the table," said Pelosi in an interview aired Sunday on CBS "60 Minutes."

Asked if that was a pledge, Pelosi said it was.

"Yes, it is a pledge," she said. "Of course it is.". . .

By declaring her intent to betray our constitutional democracy and give Bush and Cheney cover for their crimes she may have accomplished the one thing everyone would have thought would be impossible: depress Democratic turnout.

everyone here watches. I think this an opportunity for Nancy to show she is not the Demon from Hell the RR and RW try make her out to be (actually, she is follower of JC)!

Fingers crossed, hope she deflates their demonic attempts!

6. am I the only one who'd like to see as little of her as possible til
after the election?

the pugs are going APEshit trying to make her the symbol of all that is bad about dems, and EVERYTHING she does/says will be held up to ridicule, contumely, etc., and her words will be twisted into unrecognizability in an attempt to smear her in the most heinous ways

so....even when she does well, it's just fodder for the fascist propaganda machine.

thoughts?

9. she's the centerpiece, though. I'd rather they gave somebody else
the spotlight.

that's all

no need to add fuel to the propaganda fire

why do you think bush isn't being seen with hardly any candidates?

in my district our congressional candidate ties his opponent, Mark Kirk (the fricking assistant WHIP!), via word/deed/pictures to the chimp as if they were siamese twins. and this unknown is within 2 points of Kirk, in a stunning turn of events, and 14 points ahead with people who know who he (Seals) is.

this is what they're doing with Pelosi; they're smearing Tammy Duckworth here with her 'Pelosi connection', too. that's what the ads are all about with her. I see all the time now. really disgusting stuff

on television. At least I think it is, it used to be.

If she can impress that our first hundred hours in power is going to reverse the suffering the middle class and poor have had for the last six years, that is going to be mega huge for new votes.

Puts the republicans to shame. I'm almost sure, she'll proudly talk about it too.

very snide comments, as well as idiotically disingenuous, like the one about "critics say" that, by keeping her 'troops' in lockstep, that she's increased the logjam in congress!!!!

I couldn't believe she said that. they can pass ANYthing they want. and they have, thanks to the LOCKSTEPPING, goosestepping republicans

Stahl should be ashamed of herself. I don't see how she can look at herself in the mirror when she shaves every morning

snide comments I didn't think were necessary, like mentioning what Pelosi was wearing :eyes: but she has to act non-partisan so couldn't and wouldn't softball the whole interview. Pelosi handled the interview well, I thought.

63. she didn't ask ONE non-combative question that I recall. there's
a difference between being a journalist, and being a water carrier

I've seen her do this too many times to so-called liberals, or critics of this administration, to believe in her being non-partisan

could be my own partisanship is clouding my vision, but I was astounded at the myriad examples of snarky, meanspirited, ad hominem little bits in there that could have been handled in a non-partisan way. WAY too many, from getting her hubby to say he picks out her wardrobe, to getting her daughter say she was a drill instructor (and tying that into her INSANE "critics say" bit about her reponsibility for making the congressional logjam worse), to the bit about the pork chops

that was a HIT PIECE

sorry. she didn't have put in all the garbage, but she did. that wasn't journalism

88. Honey? With Fascists?
Sounds suspiciously like appeasement to me.

I'm probably misconstruing your post, but I don't consider "honey" to be of much use in the fight to rescue our Constitution.

Impeachment is the weapon we gave Congress to defend the Constitution against attacks from within the halls of power.

Like a cop pulling over a drunk driver to protect the public from harm, we can be businesslike, but the police wouldn't be much use to us if they followed http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20061022-105000-9810r">Madam Pelosi's example (i.e., They wouldn't get any drunks off the road if they kept their distance and said "Gee, we'd better pretend we AREN'T pulling him over! No sirens now!")

What part of "Drunk with Power" don't our so-called leaders understand?

If bush is willing to turn a blind eye to genocide in Darfur in order to gain intelligence info on Al Qaeda, then WHY the hell would they not think that he's willing to burn the US Constitution to do the same.

I thought Stahl had too long an on-ramp with her questions, although by the last third or so, she hit a stride. She's at her best with hapless interviewees like Stephen Hadley, and less effective with stronger personalities like Pelosi.

Pelosi came off beautifully, IMO. Just terrific. Yes. Let this woman be the new Speaker of the House.

69. Thank you, O C. I thought Pelosi handled it well, and enjoyed
'meeting' her husband, kids, learning about her background. She's a scrapper!

70. I don't want a pledge of no impeachment! I want those fuckingq
criminals to suffer the consequences of their actions! WTF?

So, basically, they all get away with what they've done, meanwhile I have to go to jail for having a quarter ounce of weed.

Bullshit.

72. Why would Pelosi show her cards now? She's as
pissed of at this admin as we are. Maybe now, right before an election, isn't the time to show those cards.

78. She just pledged that there would be no impeachment! So,
are you saying that. despite the fact that she made that pledge on national TV on one of the most viewed shows, she will then dishonor that pledge and the Democrats right along with it?

80. I'm saying she doesn't have to 'stay the course'. I think we
get through the elections, and then talk. I'd not be opposed to some kind of campaign to let her know we will accept nothing less. But to go on nat'l tv and claim they're going right for the jugular might not be the smartest way to play this.

86. Her "pledge" effectively exonerates Bush and Cheney
. . .I guess she http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2897349&mesg_id=2898885">really does want to be an "Accessory After the Fact" War Criminal.

89. Saying at this point that impeachment was on the table is a bad idea.
Hell...wait until the Democrats take power first.

Also...impeachment has to include both Bush AND Cheney.

She said nothing about launching investigations by the House. Remember, we'll now have control of committees. With subpoena power.

75. She is. I think she's going to be a huge success in her new role.
Of course we have to elect enough Democrats to the House for her to assume that role, but I think we're headed that way, and it will be a great lift this coming January when Dubya strides into the chamber for his State of the Union speech and Speaker of the House Pelosi is seated right behind him in full view of the American people.

Great post, babylonsister, as per your usual.

81. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!

"Of course it is.". . .

Why don't you just say it Nancy?

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and be derelict in my duty to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear foreswear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will fail to take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully negligently and faithlessly discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

85. Why? Do you assume she's lying and actually intends to impeach?

87. Lesley Stahl treated her like a hostile witness
Pelosi held her own. I think she did very well by herself for this interview. If we take Congress, we'll see what develops.
