Re: Elizabeth Edwards' so called "bombshell"
Um, maybe it's just me -- but what's the problem with one woman saying

she's "happier" or "more joyful" than another woman?

How is that supposed to be a bombshell, much less a big deal?

I just don't get it

3. Media disease ,if I didn't know better I'd think Kkkarl was behind it.
I saw the power one subjective statement had here on D.U., you would of thought F.D.R. had took sides with Hitler.

8. Thanks, CW. But this drivel s NEWS?
Trees had to die for this stuff?

Her shocking salvo, made Thursday during a Ladies Home Journal luncheon to promote her new memoir, "Saving Graces," also included a veiled shot at Clinton's social etiquette by recalling a time the New York senator surprised her by unexpectedly showing up for dinner at the Edwards' Georgetown home.

"Apparently, she had confirmed with John just a little while earlier, but news hadn't reached me," Mrs. Edwards said.

"We didn't have enough shepherd's pie in the fridge, so we ate salmon and cabbage - lots of it. She loves cabbage, and so do I."

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson, shortly after Clinton's debate with John Spencer, said the senator got a call from Mrs. Edwards "to apologize."

18. Yeah, I saw that link but I already had my shower tonight
so I decided not to go there. What passes for news--or at least some form of entertainment--in this country never ceases to boggle (gobble?) my imagination.

Happiness is what life is all about, after all. To tell someone that you're happier than they are because you made the right choice is not exactly endearing. And how can she possibly know how happy Hillary is or is not? If she wants to talk about how happy she is, more power to her.

23. Exactly
It's not possible to declare oneself more joyful than someone else. You can't know their joy, not really.

And what's the purpose in the comparison? Why in the world would you do that? Why not just speak about your own joy -- that would be more than sufficient.

This along with the digs about wealth... disappointing from Elizabeth, I must say. Very high school.

7. It's in poor taste, particularly in a public setting.
I wouldn't call it a bombshell, but it isn't a very nice thing to say.

9. I just could not figure why this would be news.
It is true the reporters are ready to publish everything that will turn a Democrat in a negative light. People are to be careful when they give an interview.

10. Work doesn't make a woman "joyful"???
Coming from a woman who was actually a bankruptcy lawyer for most of her adult life??

I'm going to give the woman a pass because I know illness can mess with your head, but she's made a few catty statements that surprised me lately. But what the heck if this is the worst thing she ever says, well criminy, she's still leaps and bounds better than me!!

12. Making mountains out of molehills.
Remember when Teresa Heinz-Kerry made the remark about Laura Bush not working, or something like that? We lived with the fallout from that statement for weeks. It was truly bizarre.

The media has reduced itself to the pathetic level of journalistic dumpster diving.

14. Eliz Edwards
Don`t be fooled by the so called "liberal Media." It`s most likely a quote that`s taken completely out of context to make it apper to be critical of a fellow democrat.

No one should be fooled by the so called "liberal media. It`s most likely an attempt to be a critical statement of a fellow democrat.

17. This has already been around for a day or two. In fact
Elizabeth called Hillary today and apologized for her remark about "being happier".

In other words, not out of context - a correct report (for a change).

This crap is a distraction. ELizabeth needs to say on message and just promote her book. I started reading it (about 20 pages into it) and she had already dissed Teresa H. Kerry.

19. I can't honestly answer your question without donning more flame
retardent suits than are available to me at this time.

I just have to ask, has Mrs. Edwards had to endure her husband's infidelity plastered worldwide while covered through impeachment hearings here? Right or wrong about Bill Clinton, how many women do you know who make choices about mates that either bring them happiness or much regret for whatever reason?

Disclaimer: My first marriage was to someone who proved to be an abuser and I honestly didn't see it coming before the fact. He was truly devoted and loving to his neices and nephews (young kids at the time) and to me prior to the fact. I got the hell out before I'd been married to him for a year. So right or wrong I guess I can only state that some choices are bad while others are good and not all choices bring one much joy and happiness?

24. Exactly.
It is a pretty pathetic attempt to distract people from what is important. And it indicates to me that there are forces that would prefer that Senator Clinton and Ms. Edwards unite some large forces wthin our party. The more these two put their heads together, the better off this country will be.
