The Woman Who Would Be Speaker - Pelosi Set to Seize Opportunity...
'On election night 2004, Nancy Pelosi faced a painful reality: Her party was again a big loser, failing to win the presidency and losing three more House seats. Pundits were suggesting Pelosi should accept her fate as the leader of a permanent House minority.

But the California legislator had a different idea. Instead, she reached out to advertising executives, Internet moguls and language specialists to ask how Democrats could rise from the ashes and challenge President Bush and the Republicans. The advice that came back was unabashed: "You must take him down" and then hammer away at the differences between the two parties, Pelosi recalled.

Today the Democrats appear capable of taking back leadership of the House after 12 years in the minority, for reasons largely beyond Pelosi's control: an unpopular war, an unpopular president and a series of scandals that have left the Republicans highly vulnerable.'

1. The worst they can say about her is that she's from San Francisco.
So what's that supposed to mean? Homosexuals might end up working in the office of the Speaker? THAT'S SCARY!

Oh, wait a minute....

Nevermind.

5. Hey there, bridgit. Nice to see you as always.
Good post, too.

I think Nancy Pelosi is ready for the job, and god knows the country could use a change.

When I was a youngun, Congress was largely an all-boys club. The times, they are a'changin' -- and the gender balance is a healthier trend.

she does seem to be the genuine article.

Much more of her and much less of Hastert sure works for me.

You hint I'm ignorant, then that I vote RW because I want the shithead impeached!!

Quite the thinking process you got going there..

Yanno, all the namecalling crap is what the "other side" is so good at.

You might want to look at that.

In the meantime, so long....

... they're so often attacked with a "go ahead and vote for Bush" broadside? Is that the only refuge for people incapable of civil, rational discussion?

Fact: Pelosi has said that the Democrats would NOT initiate impeachment proceedings, in no uncertain terms.

25. "Jane, you ignorant slut!"
This seems to be the pinnacle of 'reason' for some. I really don't get it - is the distinction between 'message' and 'messenger' really that difficult to comprehend?

I figure if I can read such a response and not get the slightest idea what's being responded to, there's something wrong. When I then count the uses of various forms of the word "you," it sure doesn't seem like rocket science. (Twice in one sentence is often a tiny CLUE.)

What I love is the constant awareness that this is exactly how the RW does it--personal slams against those who don't see your exact vision, but don't want to see that "our side" does the same thing--and right here on DU.

Where is Jung when we need him??

42. imo this is part of how 'it' is done, innocuously nibbling round...
the edges at first while blithely casting aspersion regarding a lack of dem resolve

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2449337&mesg_id=2449423

then comes the snide

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2449337&mesg_id=2449464

and then the personal attack for not being able to digest someone with a counter notion; or a suggestion, a mere suggestion, that they then do as would their idea may have implied to begin with

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2449337&mesg_id=2449512

and only then the implication that someone has cast them as ignorant, though to prove a point never made...they then use their 'ignore' feature = what a process indeed!!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2449337&mesg_id=2449820

:spray: too precious

28. yet he will fall nonetheless, as to whether it is "impeachment" matters...
not to me, so long as the disaster that is g.w. bush is left for all to see; though as is characteristic...the passage was "vote him back-in-by-proxy" by way of republican house members in general in that clearly bush will not be running and this is how matters are drawn so far off course imfo

31. He's down
And it all started with social security. The last two years did not happen completely by accident. She's also the one that told Murtha to go out there with his Iraq proposal on his own, it'd have more weight that way. She was right. She's done a fantastic job and the fact that it doesn't look like partisan politics makes it all the better.

40. He's *not* "down"--he'll continue to get away with it, just like Poppy
got away with Iran Contra.

This isn't about cheering for our Dems or not... it's about OUR COUNTRY.

Not being willing to go after the RW for all the crimes they have committed means, that just like Iran Contra, it will come back again and again, worse every time.

If that's "partisan politics", then we might as well just give up now, and say this was a nice experiment while it lasted.

36. You have a point.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and do whatever passes for prayer in agnostics that the Dems wipe the floor with the religious whackjobs -- I mean, the GOP. I will hope that Pelosi becomes the first female Speaker of the House and starts trying to undo the damage 12 years of Repugnant rule have done. I'm terribly disappointed they won't initiate impeachment proceedings against the shrub, but if they can make his last two years in office utterly miserable and fight him every step of the way, that will be small consolation.
