Free Saddam to end woes in Iraq, lawyer tells Bush
AMMAN (Reuters) - The United States should free Saddam Hussein if it wants to end its problems in Iraq and earn the friendship of Arabs, the former Iraqi president's lawyer wrote in a letter to U.S. President George W. Bush.

"I call on you ( President Bush) to release Mr. President (Saddam) immediately to allow the Iraqis to decide his fate. Only then will you get out of your predicament in Iraq and truly become an advocate of justice," Khalil Dulaimi wrote in a letter obtained by Reuters.

Such a decision would prove to be the panacea that would end Washington's woes over Iraq, Dulaimi asserted.

"Your relations with Iraq will then be historic and you will win the favor of the Arabs and Muslims and the entire world," Dulaimi said, adding that it was the only way to spare Iraq from undergoing a bloody civil war.

"Iraq is heading now toward a destructive civil war... release him so that wounds can heal and his people unite."

1. Oh spare me... With Saddam stripped of his power Iraqi's
would immediately heinously torture him to death in the streets. Civil war in Iraq is inevitable IMO at this point. The damage has already been done. As far as the Arab world goes, even those that were allies are fed up with us. They are all calling for a PLAN to get out of Iraq. They all say our presence there is a problem.

IMO, even getting out isn't going to do us any good. We were screwed the minute we stepped foot in that country. Afghanistan was understandable and everyone could get behind that but Iraq was an oil/power grab plain and simple. Arabs are very attached to their oil. They will pull the rug out from under this. They already are. These oil prices are not JUST the administration and the American oil companies. Arab controlled oil prices are going up for a reason. They are doing what they can on an economic scale to destroy our economy.

BushCo pissed off the world over this war. The more evidence of his criminal behavior that comes out the more pissed off they all become. Luckily most of them are still coherent enough to understand "we the people" aren't in charge. I wonder how much longer until they start blaming us for not rising up and doing something about this situation we find ourselves in.

2. It's too late for this idea.
We should have allowed Saddam to move to Russia before the war. It would have been the lessor of two evils. Not everyone would have been pleased but it would have saved thousands of lives including our own.
