Helen Thomas: Torture Bill "ALL Americans Will Be Tainted By It"
The military commissions act is law. And all Americans will be tainted by it.

Helen Thomas: A Sad Day For America
By Helen Thomas
Thursday, 19 October 2006

WASHINGTON -- President Bush on Tuesday signed the law that legalizes the administration's shameful treatment of detainees suspected of terrorism.

The same measure also empowers the president to define torture. It's a sad legacy for America and its already-tarnished world image.

The new law -- the Military Commissions Act of 2006 -- establishes a system for trying suspects in military tribunals. It was enacted after the Supreme Court ruled last June that the administration plan for trials by military commissions violated U.S. and international law.

In effect, President Bush got all he wanted from a submissive GOP-dominated Congress and a few spineless Democratic lawmakers. The president on Tuesday did not issue his customary signing statement interpreting implementation of the law. He didn't have to because lawmakers on Capitol Hill had handed him total victory.

1. Why the fuck isn't this woman President???
Honestly, Helen Thomas has the clarity, insight and intelligence to lead this country - and I'm not joking about this or being flippant.

and its people. He should be ashamed of himself for what he's done, but he thinks of no one but himself and his powerful wealthy cronies.

They all need to be dealt with, and we can do it starting in November.

VOTE DEMOCRATIC - CLEAN UP THE MESS IN AMERICA!

Edit to add: I love Helen Thomas - what a great lady. She is a true American.

4. I hope I see him held accountable in my lifetime.
And I hope his legacy (of which he is SO concerned) is nothing more than a disgrace, and he becomes known to future generations as the worst president in our history (if we survive).

3. well what is signed can be "unsigned"
another precedent that our magnificent Führer established.

I say we "unsign" his entire presidency, AND recess appoint the entire judicial vacancy list all at once. I want to see heads explode and then put every santorum-frothing republican on the no-fly, no-drive, no pogo-stick list.

And I'm completely serious; sometimes the best deterrant is to show them what they brought upon themselves.
