1. Good Point. Then We Can Say "See? Even His Confirmation Took Civil
Liberties Away"

Good way to start him out, but forcing the rethugs to already take away minority rights of congress.

I'd say it would be quite appropriate, actually.

6. I don't think the pukes will do it...but if they do, so what? Maybe that
is what America needs to wake up!

15. I'm not following. Are you saying filibuster = civil liberties?
Wow. So the racist thugs that used the filibuster to block civil rights legislation for two decades were just protecting civil liberties?

I've said it before..I want Alito blocked if at all possible, but the filibuster is not the easiest tactic to defend and getting all sentimental about it is risky as the aboave example demonstrates. UNLESS there is a modicum of bi-partisan support for a filibuster, I think the Democrats would be foolish to pursue that route. The public's understanding of senate rules and procedures is very limited and the idea that a minority can block the majority doesn't compute for a large number of people -- people whose mindset has been encultured to beleive that whoever has the most points in a contest wins. If there were a couple of repubs that would stand up and support a filibuster, I'd be of a different view. Its like the fight on the Patriot Act. The fact that Sununu and a handful of repubs joined in refusing cloture insulated that effort from successful attack (despite chimpy's lame efforts to label it a political move by Democrats).

7. If they only had a brain. If the pukes do it, which I don't think they
would, it's my personal belief that it would cause a revolt the likes of which we've never seen before.

24. me too! It would've been like throwing the first punch in a fist fight...
dems would've punched the pukes in the nose...their eyes would've been waterin' couldn't see.

then you can hit 'em like 4-5 more times after that.

instead, the dems just let the pukes spank them like little bitches.

4. Yep - they have nothing to lose, and everything to gain
by blocking that scumbag fuck Alito either with a filibuster that wins, or a filibuster that causes the repukes to execute their nuclear option.

Of course, the spineless bastards won't do it. Even when the victory is certain, they fear to go.

and that they were going to get their clocks cleaned..that some of our so called leaders would get a little fighting spirit!

23. Goodboy !!!
How are you doing? I couldn't find your other thread today when I looked, is everything ok?
I saw a few excellent suggestion and even a job offer in the other thread. Did you reach your goal? The other thread said you needed $6000 by today or you were in serious trouble?

Last I saw you had another seizure and were on your way to the hospital, did they give you something for the pain?

I'd love to help out still if necessary but the western union fees for cross boarder transactions mean I'd almost be giving them as much as you. Can I send a check or money order, and if so who to and where?

The outpouring of support was amazing and I hope you are well enough to at least consider the job offer. I'd like to think one day I would have such caring people around me if need be.

13. IMCPO, the rat bastards don't have the support for the nuclear option
and THAT is why they are so "in your face" with "we'll clean yours clock" BULLSHIT. THEY DON'T HAVE THE SUPPORT FOR THE NUCLEAR OPTION.

The Democrats are fucking WIMPS if they let this chance pass them by, but IMCPO....Harry Reid is being sneaky. I think he DOES have the support for a fiibuster and just doesn't want anyone to know it until it happens. That's what I feel in my bones. And that is worth absolutely NUTHIN'!:)

The Democrats have laid out so many reasons why ScAlito SHOULD NEVER BE CONFIRMED. NOW is the time for ALL Democrats to stand together and fight these rat bastards.

22. They're more likely than McCain.
No way McCain bucks the tide on the nuclear option if he has any dreams of getting the repub nomination. Warner and Specter I can see. Hagel? He's a wild card I think.

But if McCain is lost, then the nuke option passes and as much of an iconoclast as McCain would like people to believe he is, he also is a realist and if he is the guy that scuttled the Alito nomination he couldn't get the repubs to nominate him as WH janitor.

14. I agree.
We have nothing to lose.

When (and if) we take control of the White House, we can then ram through real, liberal judges. Remember, Ginsburg was a moderate ... a compromise candidate, approved of by R's on the Judiciary Committee. If they're gonna ram Alito down our throats, they deserve what's coming.

28. Works for me
changes the topic on whether or not the DEMS are grandstanding the Alito nomination to score points with their base. Makes the GOP looks like the kniving low-lifes they are; Hurts Frist and Bush for nominating someone who destroyed the comity of the Senate.

"They needed the Nuclear option to push through an anti-choice candidate."

The fight over nuking the senate rules might pull CHaffe, collins and snow into our side of the aisle and maybe some more from the gang of 14. Maybe even Specter. It would take weeks to get through I suspect and then maybe Cheney will cast the deciding vote. Great PR. Really ought to rally the base.....Umm

I am not opposed....It is simply a gambit that has some risk which need to be thought through.
